The seniors of Brooklyn High looked at each other as the last bell rang, signaling that summer had begun.
Noah and Lily were bouncing in their chairs, they had been accepted to New York Acting University. Annie was going to train to be a vet and already decided to work part-time at the animal shelter. Jessie was excited to start making people laugh at the hospital while Janet was focused on getting her degrees. Daniel had already graduated and worked a steady job in the big city.
"It's over! Goodbye homework! Goodbye grades and tests and pop quizzes!" Jessie said dramatically.
"Ms. Nolan, please stay in class until you hand over your assignment" Annie imitated their strict Economics teacher, making Jessie frown.
"What assignment?" she asked, making Janet shake her head. Everyone left the classroom, leaving Jessie to wonder...
What homework assignment?
*****
"See, now I'm just disappointed in both of us"
Annie glared at Jessie. Lily groaned.
They had been trying to make some cupcakes that spelled,
GRADUATED
But it wasn't going well.
At all.
Jessie had a smudge of batter on her left cheek, Annie's hands were chocolate coated and the frosting was all over the place.
They tried to make cards, but Jessie had gotten hold of the glitter.
"Why did we choose baking? Why not flowers?"
Lily smiled guiltily at Annie.
When they made an acceptable batch of cupcakes, they left the house with proud smiles on their faces.
Noah bit into the cupcake as soon they were bought, but Janet waited for Noah's reaction.
"Mmm, nice", Noah said making Annie pull a relieved face.
"Thank god, because icing this thing took forever, " Jessie said, leaning on a tree.
Noah took another cupcake, feeling ravenous but immediately spat it out. "This tastes like toothpaste"
"Oh, that was me, the first cupcake I made, I added some toothpaste to the frosting".
Noah glared at Annie.
"And pray tell, who was your target?".
"You, my lovely cousin".
Noah chased his cousin around the park in just a few minutes. "Should we help?" asked Lily worriedly.
Janet and Jessie didn't answer.
For very good reasons, they defended themselves.
It wasn't polite to speak with your mouth full.
