"Hi! I've never seen you in town before. I want to deliver you a package"
"You do realise that we can hear you?"
Noah grumbled under his breath. Thanks to Janet, they had gotten Ginerva's address. Daniel and Lily were listening through the end of another walkie talkie at their garage. "Alright...I'm going in the lion's den" he reported. "Actually, the lion is Lady A...her workers or whatever she likes to call them are the snakes...so technically it's snake burrow" Lily corrected. "Are the code names really necessary?" asked Noah. "Yes" the siblings said in unison. "Fine...I am approaching to the snake's burrow. So, for god's sake...be quiet" Noah said, gritting his teeth.
He rang the doorbell. The door opened and Ginerva came out, slightly confused why a boy wearing a Boy Scout uniform was out on a Sunday. Noah noticed her eyes looked strained. "Hi! I was wondering if you could contribute for our troop? We're selling cookies" he said in a friendly manner. "Why are you out here on a Sunday? Scouts are usually on Tuesdays and Thursdays" Ginerva asked. "I am a dedicated member" he said, giving her firm nod and a salute to sell the idea.
"I used to be a scout myself. I don't remember those badges" she said. Noah didn't have an answer for that, he was already nervous and improvisation never worked well when he was nervous. Lily was about to bang her head on the table when Daniel stopped her. He quickly grabbed a book and put it under her. He waved his hand as if to say "proceed" and Lily banged her head on the book cover instead of the wooden table.
The silence grew as Ginerva looked suspiciously at the so-called Boy Scout. "They must've made new badges when I left" she smiled. "Scouts have to help each other, let me check if I have some cash running around". Noah sighed in relief as she went back inside. "You are in luck mister" she said and gave him some dollars and a few coins. "Can you fill out this form for me? Our scout master is pretty strict about who we get our money from" Noah explained and handed her a sheet. Ginerva nodded and quickly filled the form. "Thank you" he said cheerfully. He gave a box of cookies, grabbed the form and left.
Lily snatched the form out of Noah's hand as soon as he came to the garage. "You're welcome" Noah said and the two boys looked over Lily's shoulder.
FULL NAME: Ginerva Turninghum
ADRESS: Number 14, Main Street, Brooks
OCCUPATION: Secretary for Magazine Co.
Lily looked at the two and immediately called the others. "Turninghum?" asked Annie. "She must be the niece Mrs. Turninghum was talking about. She did say that she had a niece. The niece wanted the book because of the note" Jessie said. But Janet shook her head. "The note wasn't there when we looked at the book. Mrs. Turninghum buying that must have been a coincidence"
"Can't we check the security footage of that day?" asked Daniel. Janet slowly nodded. "That might just work" she said. "Then Dan, Noah and Janet can go to the library, we'll check the Antique store" Lily confirmed.
"What about the money Ginerva gave us?" Noah questioned. "Just donate it to charity or something" Daniel replied. "Yeah, I'm sure the strict scoutmaster won't mind" shrugged Lily.
