The class was concentrating hard. Mrs. Logan was explaining the history lesson with animated gestures. However, some students were more concerned about the ticking clock.
Just a few more minutes....
Lily quickly wrote her notes down while staring at her textbook. "Now...there will be a test tomorrow and I expect you all to study hard for it" lectured Mrs. Logan. Lily's phone buzzed and she glanced at her phone. It was a text from their group chat.
Jessie- EMERGENCY. COME TO THE LIBRARY RIGHT NOW.
Lily looked at the text again just as the bell rang. She grabbed her books and sped off to the library. She found Jessie sitting in the farthest table. "When I said come right now, I meant it" Jessie's annoyed voice welcomed her. "Well sorry. But we had lessons to attend to" huffed Annie as Janet panted. "We aren't practicing for the Olympics" reminded Noah. Daniel was the last to arrive, muttering something about almost getting detention for running a marathon in the halls. Everyone in the library seemed too busy to pay attention to the group.
"I found something" Jessie declared. "Well, I hope so because I'm going to be late for Chemistry" Janet remarked. "Just go on" pressed Lily eagerly. Jessie cleared her throat dramatically before continuing. "I was just checking through the science section when I spotted a year book –obviously the shelf assistant didn't do her job correctly- and I just flipped through it. And guess what I found?"
"Just TELL us" five voices echoed. "SHHHH!" the librarian muttered and Lily sent her an apologetic look.
"Geez...fine...well...I found that there was an advice column back when our parents attended school. It was really good but when one student asked for advice, it backfired and the student, who's a senior and happened to come from a really powerful family, made the writer's life miserable. The person who gave the advice was Eliza Mills"
"WHAT?" Janet yelled. The people in the library sent them dirty looks.
"Eliza was bullied by probably everyone in school when they found out. But she took quite a political climb when the elections turned up. She wanted to make that rich student's father pay...and she ran for mayor. No one really voted for her until they found out what a fraud the father was. Honestly with all this history...it's a miracle we're even here" Jessie said.
"So, to pay for the students who bullied her, she started the gossip column. But why did she stop so suddenly?" asked Daniel. The group thought hard, but no answers came into their mind.
"Who was the student that came from the rich family?" asked Noah. "Someone called Gina. It didn't say the last name" Jessie said and showed them the year book. The page that Jessie had marked showed a newspaper cutting. One of the pictures showed a girl trying to cover her face, the other showed an older girl who was smirking. Janet gasped. "Call me crazy...but that girl looks a lot like...". Everyone took a closer look. There was no denying it, the older girl looked a lot like Mrs. Turninghum.
