Chapter 39

"Omygad! Really? He's not yet married? Hindi niya anak 'yong nakita natin?"

I sighed and smiled. Hindi ko ito nabanggit sa kanila noon. I want to enjoy the ounce of privacy I have in my current status with Abel kahit pa alam kong may nalalaman na sila. The memories of them knocking on my door while Abel and I are hooking up is still fresh on my mind.

"See? Assumera kasing frog!" Dagdag pa ni Helios ng sumilip sa screen. Ngumuso ako at sumalumbaba sa mesa. "Kaya pala nagkukulong na kayong dalawa sa cabin mo!"

"Hinda ah!" Lalong tumulis ang nguso ko.

"Paano naman si Philip?" Tanong ulit ni Helios, concerned palagi sa kapakanan ng gwapong si Philip. "Kawawa naman ang baby ko! Paasa ka gurl!"

"Nakapag-usap na kami, noong nakaraang araw. Nirerespeto niya naman ang naging desisyon ko." 

I'm honestly glad that I met a person like Philip. He respects my decision and he never turned angry when I said that I want him to stop courting me. And those passing days, he still treats me the same, only with a little restriction. We agreed to be friends and he's happy about that.

"Sinayang mo lang siya! Ireto mo kaya sa akin, ha?" Nakangising suhesyon ni Safiya.

"You want? I can ask him."

"Sino bang ayaw sa gwapo na, Engineer pa?!"

"Hoy, ako ang nauna kaya sa akin dapat siya mapunta!" Si Helios na kulang na lang ay hilain ang buhok ni Safiya. 

Ilang minutong bangayan nila ang narinig ko bago kami nagpaalam sa isat-isa. Mabuti na lang talaga at sanay na ako sa dalawang 'yan. I don't understand them. They care for each other this time, then the next day, they are already scratching each other.

Sunday when Abel invited me to meet his family. Kabadong kabado ako! I have been in the ranch a long time ago but I never had a chance to meet his Father or even his young sisters. I know they have a little background about me since they're working here in the Hacienda but still, iba pa rin pala sa pakiramdam na ipakikilala ka sa pamilya. Nakakaba at hindi ko maexplain!

"Are you sure about this?" I asked, tension is gliding over my voice. Kinuha ni Abel ang palad ko at sinampa sa hita niya. He gave me a glance before returning his focus to the road while driving.

"Seryoso at sigurado." Nakangiti niyang sagot sabay angat ng palad kong hawak at bigyan ito ng halik. 

I gulped and didn't say anything more. Ano naman kaya ang impression nila sa akin? Magugustuhan kaya nila ako? I mean my past accomplishment history is not good. My former attitude towards people are not good either. Paano kong alam  nila 'yon? What if they'll think that I'm rude and a spoiled brat? 

Pero nagbago na ako! My love for Abel changed me in a mature way and I willingly accepted the challenge to change for the better. Abel contributed a bundle of it but that is still my personal decision.

"What if they'll not like me? Your Father and Sisters?!" Medyo garalgal ko nang tanong. 

Kung ano-ano kasing negative na bagay ang tumatakbo sa isip ko. Masyadong advance mag-isip dahil guilty sa pagiging matapobre noon.

"Bakit naman hindi ka nila magugustuhan? Ako nga, nagustuhan kita." Then he smirked and I sighed heavily. Ang lalaking 'to, hindi nawawalan ng rason.

"That's a different story!" 

I encourage myself to remember every part of the road we're taking, still the rancho is beautiful and peaceful. Everyone here is satisfied with their lives. Because aside from a fair salary and compensation from the DC, people here have the privilege to witness the beauty of the vast, how the color of the skies changes into warm every sunset and how it's intense when it's summer.
