Helping Out A Frenemy

"Fuck," the brunette muttered as she turned her key once again. The car spluttered before shutting off.

"It's okay Courtney, let's just resort to plan B and phone Bridgette," she told herself, reaching to the passenger side to dish out her phone from her purse. She pulled it out and turned it on only to realize it was at one percent.

"You're joking, right?" she huffed, clicking on Bridgette's number. As she brought it up to her ear, the phone shut off.

"What the– ?" Courtney pulled her blackberry away to discover a black screen. In anger, she threw it to the floor.

"Are you kidding me!?" she screamed in exasperation, slamming her hands down on the wheel in defeat.

How am I supposed to get home now?

She laid her head across the horn, letting tears fall down her cheeks. During this time, the rain picked up, and the droplets echoed through her ears as they hit the windshield. Cars zoomed passed, splashing puddles onto her window.

Why are you crying? Suck it up, Courtney, the brunette thought to herself.

Unfortunately, as she went to lift her body, she soon gave up and let a sob escape her mouth.

Meanwhile, a couple kilometres behind Courtney's sleek black 2010 Audi TT, was a 2009 silver Malibu. Inside was a goth, bickering about the rain.

"This fucking weather makes it so hard to see sometimes," Gwen, the goth, grumbled underneath her breath as her body inched closer and closer to the windshield.

Though the wipers were on, it didn't do her much justice.

Blowing a strand of hair out of her face out of frustration, Gwen slowed down seeing a black car parked on the side of the busy one way road.

Leaning closer, she read the license plate before driving past it.

"Oh shit," she spoke to herself as she saw Courtney, her ex friend and teammate in the front seat, her arms on the dashboard.

Gwen made the quick witted decision to turn back around despite that awful feeling in the pit of her stomach.

Why did I just do that? Why am I going to help this stuck up, two faced, brat?

It's because you still care about her, Gwen.

Ugh, and I shouldn't.

Parking her car just behind Courtney's, she grabbed her jacket.

"I can't believe I'm doing this," she said to herself, shutting off her car.

Turn back around. You still have time.

Though it was tempting, Gwen stepped foot on the slippery rocks and mud.

Gwen always had a soft place for Courtney and although the goth had tried to hide it, especially after what happened between them, there was no denying she still deeply cared about her.

She trudged her way to Courtney's car and knocked on the window, startling the brunette. Courtney jumped, slowly bringing herself to the glass.

"Huh?" The law student hurriedly swiped away her tears.

She hadn't seen the goth in a year or so, right when she heard the news about her bailing Duncan out of the calaboose.

Courtney reached out and opened up the car door to meet with the pouring rain and the drenched goth.

"Gwen?" Courtney uttered, mascara stains covering her cheeks. "What are you doing here?"

"I was making sure you were okay," the goth answered, adjusting her jacket. "I saw your license plate, and you were in the car..."

"Oh..."

A wave of concern washed over Gwen's face as she examined the young adult and once good friend in front of her.

"Are you okay?" she blurted out, looking at Courtney's shaking hands.

"Does it look like I'm okay!?" Courtney shouted out in exasperation, taking Gwen by surprise.

Sure, she knew Courtney was hot headed, but she hadn't dealt with the brunette and her anger in a while, so she forgot what it was exactly like.

Guilt rose up to Courtney's throat. "I-I'm sorry. It's just... I think my car died, and my phone's also dead, a-a-and it's raining..." Courtney broke out into another sob.

Feeling remorse, Gwen watched Courtney clutch onto her steering wheel again. It brought her back to the time during Total Drama World Tour where Courtney immediately shut down after the trip to Greece.

Courtney had never felt such betrayal before, and the fact that it was one of her good friends that hurt her didn't make her situation any better.

"Here, head to my car," Gwen offered, "I can take you to your apartment, that is, if you still live there."

"Really?" Courtney looked up from her glassy eyes. Gwen is willing to take me home? Even after I overreacted and ruined our relationship? Again?

"Sure, this rain is a pain in the ass, and you don't live that far from here," Gwen answered, tilting her head to the direction of Courtney's apartment.

Though the 'what might happen' flooded her mind, Gwen still felt empathy for Courtney, and she wanted to help out a frenemy.

With a genial smile, Courtney slowly unbuckled her seatbelt.

"Thanks, Gwen."
