Courtney had been working hard, studying for her pre law finals all week, and she was looking forward to a relaxing Friday night at home. When she walked into her apartment, she was greeted by the sound of her roommate's music blasting from her room. It was a little jarring, but Courtney had learned to appreciate Gwen's unique style. Courtney had never thought she'd date someone who dressed and acted completely different than her, but when she met Gwen at an art exhibit, her thoughts had changed.

Gwen and Courtney had been living together for a few months now, and despite their differences, they had become close partners.

Courtney was heading to her room, ready to change into her comfy clothes when Gwen walked out of her room.

"Hey, Court, I have a surprise for you tonight," the goth said, leaning against the wall.

Courtney raised an eyebrow, hoping it wasn't something that would be physically demanding. "What kind of surprise?"

Gwen grinned. "It's date night! I know you've been pretty stressed with college work lately, and I'd thought I should do something nice and relaxing for you. So...I'm taking you up to the roof to watch the sunset."

Courtney was relieved and excited. This was exactly what she needed. "That sounds amazing! Let me change first."

As they climbed the stairs to the rooftop, Courtney couldn't help but feel a little nervous. She had never been up there before, and she wasn't sure what to expect. But as soon as they stepped out onto the roof, Courtney was blown away. The view was incredible. They could see the whole city of Toronto from up there.

"Wow Gwen, this is wonderful," Courtney uttered in amazement as Gwen took her hand, leading her towards the other side of the roof where she had set up a little picnic blanket with some snacks for them to share.

Courtney and Gwen sat down, watching the sun slowly start to dip below the horizon. It was a beautiful sight, and Courtney felt grateful to be sharing it with Gwen.

As the sky grew darker, Gwen pointed out some constellations that she had learned in her astronomy class at university. Courtney was quite impressed by how much Gwen knew about the stars. She had never been interested in astronomy, but Gwen's passion was infectious.

"That's the Big Dipper, one of the easiest to find," Gwen said, pointing a black manicured nail to a group of stars. "And that one over there is Orion's Belt."

Courtney gazed at the sky in awe. "Wow, Gwen, I had no idea you knew so much about the stars."

Gwen shrugged, placing her hands on her knees. "It's just something I've always been interested in."

As they lay on the blanket, Courtney felt a sense of peace wash over her. It was nice to take a break from the stress of college work and just enjoy the moment with her girlfriend.

"I'm really glad we did this," Courtney spoke, breaking the silence. "Thank you for setting this all up."

Gwen turned her head towards the brunette, smiling. "Me too. I think it's important to take time to appreciate the little things in life."

Courtney nodded in agreement. "You're right. I've been so caught up with college lately that I forget to take a step back and enjoy the moment."

Gwen chuckled, taking Courtney's hand. "You and me both. That's why I like to come up here and stargaze. It helps me put things into perspective."

Courtney sent Gwen a genuine smile. "I can see why. This is amazing."

As they lay there, looking up at the night sky, Courtney felt a deep connection to Gwen that she had never experienced before. Although they had always been close friends, this moment felt unique and special. It was as if they were sharing an intimate moment that only they could appreciate fully.

After a while, Gwen sat up and pulled out her phone. "Hey, do you want to take a picture of us?"

Courtney nodded, pleased with the idea of capturing this memory. "Sure, that sounds like a good idea."

Gwen handed her the phone, and they posed for a selfie. Courtney smiled as she looked at the picture. As Courtney looked at the photo, she couldn't help but smile. They looked so joyful and relaxed, like they were free from any worries or concerns.

As they packed up their things and headed back down to their apartment, Courtney felt greatly appreciated and loved by Gwen. It was nice being able to spend some time away from her worries.

As they walked through the door, they were greeted by the sound of Gwen's music still blaring from her room.

"Oh shit, I forgot to turn that off!" Gwen exclaimed, quickly running down the hall towards the room.

Courtney rolled her eyes, grinning. It was good to be home.

The rest of the night was spent watching movies and eating junk food. They laughed and joked around, like they always did. But there was something different about tonight. It was like they had crossed some invisible line, and things would never be the same again.

They eventually said goodnight and headed towards their respected rooms, tranquility enveloping Courtney. She was grateful for the time she had spent with Gwen tonight, and she was excited to see what the future would hold for them.

As she lay in bed, Courtney's mind led her back to the stars her and Gwen had observed earlier. They were so far away, yet they shone so bright. It was like they were sending a message to her, telling her that everything was going to turn out okay if she took a moment to breathe and relax.

With that thought in mind, Courtney drifted off into a peaceful slumber.
