Thanks For The Coffee
The ride to Courtney's wasn't so bad. Gwen filled the void with some old 90's rock music, and the two girls caught up with each other despite their fight a year ago.
"Well, it looks like we're here," Gwen spoke, parking the car in front of Courtney's apartment building.
Courtney unbuckled her seatbelt, reaching out to grab her backpack from the backseat.
"Thanks for driving me... to my apartment," Courtney murmured, collecting her stuff.
"Not a problem," Gwen responded, glowering at the pouring rain in front of her.
It's going to be such a pain in the ass to drive back, she thought, glancing out her window.
Courtney flattened her cream coloured shirt, bracing for the rain.
"Guess I'll see you around," Gwen told her with a small nod as the brunette reached for the door handle.
"Yeah," Courtney trailed off, opening up the door just a smudge. As she went to get out of Gwen's Malibu, she turned to look at the goth.
"Do you want—to maybe, come inside?" Courtney blurted, scratching the top of her scalp. Why did I just say that?
"That is, if you want to of course..." she trailed off, now looking at Gwen with a slight flush of embarrassment forming on her cheekbones. Did I just stutter? Courtney Barlow never stutters! She's always firm with her words.
"Huh?" the goth squeaked out, surprised at Courtney's offer.
She for sure thought Courtney only wanted a ride out of desperation, not that she wanted to hang. I mean, they hadn't talked since the fight they had a while back. And that day, it seemed like Courtney never wanted to set foot anywhere near the goth again.
"Well, it looks like the rain isn't going to stop anytime soon," Courtney said, seeing Gwen's confused state. "And I'm sure you don't want to drive back to your house in this awful weather."
Courtney does make a valid point, Gwen thought as she lifted up her chin.
"Sure, I guess I'll come inside," she replied with a warm smile.
Courtney's stomach immediately erupted into a volcano of butterflies.
"Okay, yeah." The two girls stepped out of Gwen's vehicle and made a bee line for the apartment building. Laughing, the adults slipped into the apartment building.
"Good afternoon Ms. Barlow and guest," Courtney's bellhop, Liam greeted with a wave. "It's a mighty storm, ain't it?"
"It sure is," Courtney chuckled, completely drenched. Picking at her wet shirt, Courtney led her guest over to the elevator.
"Holy shit, Gwen, you're soaked!" Courtney exclaimed as they stepped inside.
Her damp hair with beads slowly dripping down to the floor made her look like a wet dog.
"No kidding," she grumbled with a smirk. "But you should see yourself. Who knew Courtney Barlow could look like a raccoon."
With a gasp, Courtney slapped Gwen's shoulder.
"I do not!" she protested. Gwen snickered.
"You sure do, look." Gwen pulled out her phone and went to the camera app. With anger, Courtney snatched the device out of her pale hands.
"No way!" she shrieked, feeling her way around her face. "This bad!?"
"It could be worse," Gwen shrugged, taking her phone and slipping it back into her pocket.
