The Thoughts that Lace the Mind

Wilbur walked around, he was bored out of his mind. And considering Eret seemed to be the only person other than Dream that actually liked him, he went out on a search for the brunette.

Plus, it had been over a week since he had seen him and Wilbur had begun to worry. A week maybe doesn't seem like a long time, but in the time of war, Eret had always at least made an effort to reach out to Wilbur, just to make sure he was okay.

Wilbur scoffed at his worry, it had only been a week, it's not like Eret got shot or anything.

Besides, it's not like anyone really knew they were friends. If they had then both Wilbur and Eret would most likely be seen as traitors. Wilbur definitely wasn't the most liked by people in L'manburg, and Wilbur knew exactly how Dream felt about Eret. So Eret was probably just stuck with them so he could come talk to Wilbur.

The one thought provoked another, last time Eret and Wilbur had talked Eret talked about Ranboo. He wondered if maybe Ranboo knew about Wilbur and Eret's friendship. After all the way Eret spoke it made it out to seem like the two were very close. So it would make sense.

Then again, Wilbur and Ranboo's last interaction wasn't exactly a positive one. So who knows how Ranboo would react to the news.

Wilbur shook away the thoughts, he'd just ask Eret when he found them.

Wilbur glanced around, his eyes grazed the green bushes and colorful wildflowers the lined the side of the wooden path.

The soft chirping of birds and the gentle whispers of the wind rattling through the green leaves on trees were calming.

He closed his eyes, taking in a deep breath. A small smile spread across his lips. But he paused, the smile faded from his lips. He opened his eyes again.

A strong sense of déjà vu washed over him. Something just felt so familiar about the place, but he just couldn't... Oh...

This was another one of those Ghostbur memories that never quite fully came back to him but always lingered in the back of his mind.

He stepped off the path and walked over to the nearby cluster of trees. He inspected the surrounding area, scouring every corner of his mind for some type of memory on why this place felt so familiar.

He placed his hand on a tall oak tree, the rough bark pressed up against his hand. He pushed off the tree, he didn't exactly know if he had expected touching a tree to bring back some random forgotten memory.

He wandered around a bit more, nothing, there is absolutely nothing here, he grumbled in his own head.

He turned to walk back to the path to continue his search for Eret. He went to step up onto the wooden path but before he put his foot down he turned around to glance back once more.

He blinked.

"Ranboo? Who's that?" A soft voice rang through Wilbur's ears, it was his own, just much softer and more echo-y.

Wilbur's eyes rested on a masked figure clapped in red. At least until someone stepped in front of him. Wilbur quickly realized it was Ranboo in front of him and Tommy who he had been looking at.

  He blinked again.

No one stood in front of him, no Ranboo, no Tommy, just a few boring old oak trees.

Wilbur sighed and cupped his face in his hands, "goddamned ghost memories, " Wilbur hissed to no one but himself.

He looked back up, he turned around again. His heart sunk and his stomach twisted into a knot. His eyes set on a figure, only a few feet away from him, covered in blood and stumbling so much it looked like he was going to collapse.

Wilbur stood there stunned for a moment, the figure's green eyes glared at him, they were so bright they looked fake. Freckles and scars littered his face. It had been the first time Wilbur saw Dream without his mask.

Wilbur darted forward, he reached Dream just as he stumbled forward and collapsed into Wilbur's arms.

Wilbur's arms wrapped tightly around Dream as he leaned limply against him. Warm blood seeped from Dream's hoodie to Wilbur's shirt.

"Holy shit! Dream! What the fuck happened! You're fucking covered in blood! It's not yours, right? Shit shit shit! Are you okay!" Wilbur spoke so rapidly that even if he was listening Dream wouldn't be able to make it out.

He grumbled, his face buried in Wilbur's coat. "I- I'm fine, " he mumbled, his whole body stung and his throat hurt as he spoke, he'd have to keep everything he said to a minimum.

"Lost life, " He grumbled.

"Shit! How the fuck-"

"Can't talk, hurts."

"Fuck... Okay, can you walk at least?"

Dream didn't respond only grumbled again. Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, shit, Wilbur repeated it in his mind.

Okay, I can do this, I got this, he tried to encourage himself but dread still weighed heavy in his head.

He fixated his arm under Dream's, he supported his weight. He was taller than Dream (he had always blamed his unnatural height on the fact he wasn't entirely human, since he was half-what-ever-Phil-is) which made it easier, but Dream was also very tall, so it was still a very awkward position.

Wilbur stepped forward, practically Dragging Dream with him, but it would have to work.

He sighed, this would be a rather unpleasant walk home.

OKAY OKAY I HAVE SOME THINGS TO SAY

1: I'm super sorry about the crazy long wait for this chapter, not-so-funny story, I wrote this chapter twice, then deleted it because I didn't like the way it sounded, so yeah, this is the third version of this chapter and I still don't like it but it'll work

2: yes, I know the interaction between Dream and Wilbur sounds very shippy but please, it wasn't intended to sound like that, I'm just not very good at writing- but, please don't take any relationships between MCYTs in this as anything but platonic as this book does not contain ships

3: I would like to go into more detail on this but pretty much, after losing a life, the fatal wound will heal (leave a scar, but heal) although other nonfatal wounds will remain, also, after respawning, most people will feel extremely nauseous, sore, and weak, some people have a higher tolerance for it and won't feel as shitty after respawning (ex: Eret) and others may have a lower tolerance and just pretty much not be able to do anything after respawning (ex: Dream)
Hope that at least made a little sense-

And 4: The thing Wilbur was remembering was when Ranboo and Ghostbur had first seen Tommy after he was thought dead (end of 'Always' and beginning of 'The Man in the Mask')

Mmmmm'kay, thats enough outta me-
