"Changbin, Felix, time to get up!" Chan called. Felix stirred, finding it difficult to open his eyes. They felt heavy. When he finally managed to open them, the lights seemed much too bright. Shutting his eyes tightly, Felix pulled his blanket over his head and groaned. Suddenly, he noticed the thin layer of sweat covering his body.
"C'mon, Lix. Before you miss breakfast!" Changbin said rather loudly. He was excited, as they all were, for the schedule-less day ahead of them. Changbin's voice rang in Felix's head causing a headache to start up. The little shushed the older from under his blanket. "Oh, no you don't! Up!" Changbin said, pulling at his blanket.
Felix, feeling small, whined at this without realizing. "Hey, are you alright?" Chan, who had gotten back from waking the others up, asked. "No," Felix whined, his body suddenly getting chills and his headache growing. When Changbin got the blanket away was when they noticed something was wrong. "Lix, you're shivering!" Chan exclaimed.
Feeling the cold air hit his warm body, Felix curled in on himself. He flinched when Changbin's cool hand touched his damp forehead, soon leaning into the touch. The little was quickly made aware of the fact that he was slipping. "He's burning up, Chan," Changbin said. When he tried to take his hand away, Felix opened his eyes, tearing up.
The lights were still too bright, hurting his head further. "Binnie, it hurts," Felix whispered, just loud enough for the others to hear. He was trying not to give away that he was slipping. No one in the group knew about his little space. "What hurts?" the little brought his hand up to his head, tapping lightly. "Is it the lights?"
Nodding, Felix closed his eyes. "Hey! What's taking you guys so long?" Jisung called from the doorway. Felix's hands shot up to cover his ears, alerting Chan and Changbin who shushed Jisung. "What? What is it?" he asked, voice significantly quieter. "Felix has a headache and a fever," Changbin explained.
Jisung nodded, walking over. "Is there anything I can do?" he asked. "Can you and Changbin go look for painkillers? We should have some left," Chan said, sitting down on Felix's bed. Felix, feeling the bed dip, blindly reached for Chan. "I'm here, Lix. Can you turn off the lights as well?" Jisung and Changbin nodded, leaving and turning off the lights.
"Channie?" Felix called, fully regressed and not wanting to be alone. Chan hummed, looking down at the little. "Make them go 'way," he said quietly. "Make what go away?" Chan asked, brushing damp hair from Felix's face. "The ickies! Make them go 'way!" By now, a couple of tears escaped the little's eyes as he looked up at the older.
Chan was confused by Felix's behavior but smiled at him nonetheless. "Changbin and Jisung are getting you some pills to help with the headache, then you can sleep away some of the sick," he explained. A quiet sob escaped past Felix's lips, breaking Chan's heart. "I don't wanna sleep! Wanna have fun but I'm icky!" the little said, gradually getting louder.
He was getting himself worked up and the only thing that could calm a worked-up Felix was his favorite stuffie and cuddles. "Why are you so upset, hm? You never get this upset when you're sick." Chan spoke softly and with a gentle tone. Getting scared, Felix tried to pull himself out of his headspace. When he couldn't, he started to really cry.
All the commotion caused the others to start to gather, only scaring Felix further. "Hey, hey, hey, it's okay Lix! It's just us," Seungmin said, sitting next to Chan on the bed. Felix sat up and moved away from his friends, bringing his knees to his chest and hiding his face in them. "But that's why it's scary! 'Cause, it's you!
And I'm little!"
Freezing, Felix realized what he said. "Lix? Can you look at me?" Looking up slowly, the little met eyes with Chan, taking note that everyone else was in the room as well. "What does that mean?" the oldest asked softly. "It-" Pausing, Felix thought of the worst that could happen, then decided to throw caution to the wind.
"It means I'm little... I dunno how to say it," the little said. Looking away, Felix frowned and sniffled. His nose was runny from the crying. After a minute or two of silence, Jeongin spoke up. He had looked it up and was explaining what it meant to the others. The little thought about his stuffed bear, staring at the closet where it was hidden away.
"So it's a coping mechanism?" Changbin asked, the question directed at Felix. Felix, however, had his eyes glued to the closet. "Lix? Lixie?" The little one snapped out of his trance, looking up at his friends. "Can you get him for me? Please?" he asked Hyunjin, who was closest to the closet. "Get who, Lixie?"
"Hearts!" Felix said, pointing at a box at the top of the closet. After Hyunjin looked through the box and gave Felix a bear with hearts on its paws, the little started to relax. "Do you have a caregiver?" Jeongin suddenly asked. Hugging Hearts to his chest, Felix slowly shook his head. "Well, if you want, we could try and fill that role?"
Eyes lighting up, Felix looked around the group hopefully. "Yeah! We could be your caregivers!" Minho piped in. At this, Felix burst into happy tears, alarming his group mates. "What's wrong, Lixie? You don't want that?" Shaking his head quickly, the little shyly looked down at his bear. "No! I want that! I want that a lot a lot!"
Once the group agreed that they'd give the caregiver-little relationship a try, the new caregivers spent the rest of the day asking little Felix questions. Felix answered each question the best he could, happy to finally have some company while in little space. It sure beats being alone.
