Sungjoo and Yixuan were worried. Seungyoun had caught a cold, which wasn't the worrying part. The worrying part would be... Seungyoun was behaving weirdly. He wouldn't eat without a fuss, when he played he was silent as a mouse, and he was getting into more trouble than usual.
Like right now.
Yixuan had been at work more than usual, so he was trying not to fall asleep while watching a mischievous Seungyoun innocently color. He knew better than to fall asleep with his little's current mood still in play, but as his eyes drifted closed and the quiet scratch of crayon on paper was the only thing heard, he couldn't help it.
When Sungjoo got home from shopping, he was expecting a quiet Seungyoun and a diligent Yixuan. What he didn't expect, but wasn't too surprised about, was to come home to crayon on his lavender walls.
"Yixuan!" he called, hanging his bag and heading into the living room. Yixuan was scrambling off the couch, confused and dazed. "What? What? I'm up, I'm awake!" he yelled out. Sungjoo rolled his eyes, looking around for the perpetrator. Seungyoun was nowhere to be found, most likely hiding, and Sungjoo was tired of this. He'd been putting up with the misbehaving because of the sickness.
But no more.
"Where's Seungyoun?" Sungjoo asked a highly confused Yixuan, who promptly looked around the room with wide eyes. "He was... Right here?" he said uncertainly. Sungjoo rolled his eyes, irritated that his new walls were somewhat ruined. "Cho Seungyoun, get out here." His tone was stern, but he didn't yell. Yelling doesn't get anyone anywhere.
The little in question made his way into the living room, head down. Seungyoun knew he was in trouble, he knew he'd broken the rules. "Hi Sungie," he said, smiling sheepishly. Sungjoo looked from his little to the walls and back again. "Tell me something, Seungyoun. Why are there drawings on my newly painted walls?"
"Cause..." Sungjoo crossed his arms, waiting for an answer. Seungyoun looked around, trying to come up with an excuse. "Because?" Sungjoo asked, trying to get an answer from his little. "Cause... I has no more papers?" Seungyoun said uncertainly. "Baby... There's always paper, we make sure of that." Knowing he was cornered, Seungyoun tried one last plan.
If this didn't work, the little didn't know what would.
Seungyoun turned on the waterworks. His cries were loud and fake, obviously staged. Sungjoo remained unfazed, Yixuan a whole other story, standing with his arms still crossed. "You and I both know those tears are fake, so I'll wait until you're done. I'm not even that mad at you," he told the little. The crocodile tears stopped immediately, cries dying just as fast.
"You not mad?" Seungyoun asked, putting a hand to his mouth and chewing on a nail nervously. Sungjoo sighed, uncrossing his arms and walking over. "No," he said while gently pulling the little's hand away from his face. "I'm not angry anymore. I was a little bit mad when I first got home, but I'm not anymore." This put a smile on the little's face, causing his caregivers to smile as well.
"But don't think that this means you're out of a punishment, young man.” Seungyoun groaned, stomping his feet and pouting. Sungjoo raised an eyebrow, looking his little in the eye. Huffing, Seungyoun looked away and stopped pouting. "Alrighty then, I'll go get the cleaning supplies!" Yixuan said, walking off. He's not too good with punishments, he gives in a little too easy. After a ten minute time out, Seungyoun was in the kitchen eating some cut-up fruit while Sungjoo watched him and Yixuan cleaned the walls. The former didn't exactly trust Yixuan with watching their little at the moment. "Seungyoun, baby, we're gonna have a talk when you're done," Yixuan said, coming into the kitchen and putting away the cleaning supplies.
Seungyoun hates talks.
He would've stalled, eaten slowly or something, but he was already on his last piece of fruit. "Okay..." Deciding he'd gotten in enough trouble, Seungyoun ate his last piece of fruit without a fuss. "Wash your hands, we'll wait for you in the living room," Yixuan said, leaving the room to sit down. With a seemingly permanent frown, the little washed his hands, dried them, and made his way into the living room.
"Sit down baby. We know you don't like talks, but this is something we have to talk about." Seungyoun nodded, refusing to look either of his caregivers in the eye, instead, looking at an interesting spot on the floor. "What we talkin' 'bout?" Sungjoo sighed, placing a hand on his little's knee. "This. The misbehaving. You're usually so good with us! What's going on?" Seungyoun's frown deepened as he thought long and hard.
"I don' know..." he finally said, scared this wasn't the answer they wanted. It wasn't. In a way, however, the two caregivers understood what was going on. "Is your cold bothering you?" Yixuan asked, running a hand up and down the little's back. "Yeah..." Yixuan shared a look with Sungjoo, continuing. "Do you think you're acting out because you don't feel well? Because you still feel icky?"
Seungyoun slowly nodded, tearing up. "Baby, why are you crying?" Sungjoo asked, lifting Seungyoun's head. "Feels bad," the little whispered. "What does? Your body? Your feelings? Or both?" Seungyoun looked up at Sungjoo saying, "Both..." He looked at Yixuan, then the floor before saying, "Feels bad 'cause I actin' naughty... An' I actin' naughty 'cause I feel bad..."
Yixuan wrapped his arms around their little, rocking them side to side. "Everyone acts naughty every now and then. But next time, talk to us baby, we might be able to help." Sungjoo nodded, placing a hand on Seungyoun's head and ruffling his hair. "Okay... We can cuddle now?"
Who were Sungjoo and Yixuan to deny?
