42. Hunter's Mistake

"If you walk through that door, don't come back" Ellie yelled at me. My mind was blank, she slept with someone else. I opened the door, "If you walk through that door Hunter, we are over" she said quietly this time. I heard her, I heard her loud and clear, I paused in the door way and took a deep breath, I could hear it when her voiced cracked but I couldn't turn around, I couldn't look at her after what she just told me.

Without any more thought, I walked through the door and slammed it behind me.

As soon as I heard the bang behind me, my heart sank, I turned around and rested my head on the door, everything in me told me to open the door, take her in my arms and pretend she did not say anything.

I heard a faint sound on the other side of the door and I know it was the latch being put across the door so I can't open it again.

I heard the sobs on the other side that moved to the floor, my body naturally slid to the ground, here I was sitting on the outside of the hotel room with the woman that I am deeply in love with on the other side crying from something I have just done or said, everything is a blur.

When I only heard silence, I had calmed down enough to talk. I stood back up and tried to open the door, but the latch had been put across and entrance was not an option.

I knocked on the door "Elle, please open the door, I'm sorry, we need to talk" I pleaded, but there continued to be no answer.

I didn't know what to do, she was not going to let me in. I didn't feel like going anywhere public, so I made my way to Mel's rooms, I wonder if her and Rosie are back yet.

The room was dark when I walked in so I take it they are not back, I turned on the light and walked over to the bar fridge and took out a beer, I didn't even look at the label before I took off the top and downed half in one go.

I'm not sure how long I was sitting on the lounge before I looked towards the door when it opened, I met Mel's fiery eyes and I knew I was going to cop it.

"Daddy" Rosie ran straight towards me and jumped in my arms, "Hi baby, did you have fun going for ice cream" I replied trying to make it sound like I was ok but I was really dying inside.

Before she got a chance to answer Mel Spoke up "Rosie, go to the room, shut the door and turn the tv on baby please".

Rosie didn't hesitate to jump off my lap and run towards the room, once the door was closed, I sighed knowing what ever happened next, I probably deserved, what I didn't expect was to have something thrown at my head, that something fell into my lap and when I looked down, my whole entire world shattered.

I picked up the ring box that I had left on the coffee table in the room Ellie and I were sharing, I opened the box and the diamond shone brightly under the lights.

"What the fuck happened Hunter" Mel seethed at me.

"I ... it ... um ... she slept with someone else" I said finally, I had so much trouble trying to find the words.

"Really, when" she sounded calmer almost sympathetic.

"The night of my birthday the night she walked away" I replied brushing my thumb over the ring that I longed to see on Ellie's Finger.

"Oh, you fucking hypocrite" she spat at me angrily "You good for nothing piece of fucked up shit" her breathing was escalating and I could see she was getting angry.

"What the fuck Mel, she slept with someone else not me" I almost screamed but remembered that Rosie was in the other room at the last minute.

I looked up at her and she took a deep breath and wiped away a tear "at least she told you and you didn't walk in to see her in bed with someone else the next day".
