~One year later....~

"Where do you want us, Sergeant?" Owen asked over the radio as we were rushing towards the scene of a man who stole an army tank.

"Hell if I know. We got no idea where he's going. And we can't talk to him. Apparently everything on that tank works, except the radio. And he's not picking up is phone." The cop answered.

"So you know who he is?" Owen asked.

"Lieutenant John Vasquez. He was a tank gunner at Desert Storm. Wife says he's been despondent since they buried his daughter on Friday. She was 27. Served two tours in Afghanistan". He answered making me looking at Marjan sadly.

"She died inn Afghanistan?"Owen asked.

"No. She died here." He answered.

"We'll keep pace. Strand out". Owen said disconnecting the call.

"The poor bastard." Judd commented.

"Yeah. First the world ends, now this." T.K mumbled.

"Plus, there hasn't been a decent military funeral in a year". Marjan added.

"No wonder he's pissed". I sighed.

"Cap, I think I know where he's going." Paul said looking down at his tablet before handing it over to Owen.

"He's headed to the VA Hospital." Owen said over the radio.

Once we got to the Hospital we started evacuating patients and stuff for their safety.

"Come on, people! We gotta evacuate!" Owen yelled towards the stuff as they helped transfer the patients.

"Let's go! Let's go!" He yelled.

"Go, go, move. Let's move it, come on!" The officer yelled to his team mates.

"You sure about this?" The Sergeant questioned approaching Owen.

"His daughter was denied care at this facility." He said just as we heard a loud engine roaring down the road making us look up.

"Yeah, I'm pretty sure". He answered.

"All right, come on! Let's move it! Move, move, move, move!" Owen yelled as we ran up the stairs towards him.

"There's still a lot of sick folks in there, Cap". I said approaching him with Judd and Marjan.

"Cap, we haven't even hit the east wing yet". Judd added.

"We should call it". The Sergeant said.

"We need to consider our people's safety too". He added.

"What about his people?" Owen asked rhetorically.

Owen descended down the stairs and I gave Marjan a look. He took off his mask before we followed him making the Sergeant look at us like we were crazy.

The whole crew stood behind Owen as he stopped just on the edge of the pavement staring at the tank and I sighed.

"Dispatch, get me through to Mr Vasquez". Owen said over the radio.

"Copy that, Captain Strand". Grace said

We heard the conversation between Grace and John before being transferred over to Owen.

"Mr. Vasquez. My name is Grace Ryder. I'm a 9-1-1 dispatcher. I do have a friend on the line. He has something he'd like to say to you." Grace said.

"Mr. Vasquez. This is Captain Owen Strand. Austin FD. I wanna say how sorry I am for your loss. No one should ever have to feel what you're feeling. I understand you wanna blame the government for what happened to your daughter. For denying her sacrifice. I know how painful that feels." Owen spoke.
