Guess who's back. Back Again. Thank you guys for being so patient after a loooong while, but I am officially back and ready to update this book. Hope you guys enjoy.
The recent events of what had happened days before kept replaying in my head which caused me to hardly get any sleep. I tossed the blankets off of me with a sigh before getting out of bed and walking towards the bathroom.
I went over to the sink and splashed my face with water and when I looked up at myself in the mirror, I saw the familiar sight of who was once Tim with a melted face.
"Cass?" Marjan's voice called and I immediately snapped out of my day dream.
"Are you sure you're okay?" She asked me concerned.
"I'm fine!" I assured her.
"The wind shifted. We gotta move!" She warned and I nodded before following her towards the tents.
'The weeks-long battle against the San Angelo fire continues at this hour, with officials now saying the blaze has consumed more than 180,000 acres with less than 5% containment". One of the news reporters spoke as we walked passed the camera crew.
'Resources here in West Texas have been stretched to their limits, but help is now arriving from neighboring states. Fire companies from Oklahoma, New Mexico, and as far away as California are sending equipment and manpower to aid in this fight, a welcome sight to the embattled Texans on the front lines of this blaze, one that has to look a lot like the arrival of the cavalry.' She added making me share a look with Marjan before joining the rest of the crew by the tents.
"I'm Deputy Chief De Leon of the San Angelo Fire Department, acting incident commander. For those of you just joining the party, welcome." He spoke when I turned to look around at the other crew members just to see one of them staring at Marjan.
"I think that guy is staring at you". I whispered towards her before looking back at Chief De Leon just as Marjan looked over at the guy staring at her.
"I want to introduce my operations section chief, Captain Owen Strand out of Austin." De Leon added before Owen walked over.
"The thing we were praying wouldn't happen has happened. The wind has shifted. The fire's now on a collision course with the city of San Angelo. There's a possibility of weather coming in, but we can't rely on it, and we won't. We have one last shot to turn the tide." Owen spoke before moving towards the maps on the wall.
"Here. On copper ridge". He pointed on a map hanging on one of the walls.
"We cut a containment line here, and we can stop this beast in it's tracks. I know you're exhausted. A lot of you haven't had more than a couple hours sleep in days". He added, looking at me for that last part.
"But on behalf of the city of San Angelo and their 120, 000 souls, we're gonna get you up on that fire line and you are gonna cut like hell". He spoke making us nod in agreement.
"Good luck. Stay safe". He finished before walking away and I looked at Marjan.
"Captain!" One of the fire chiefs yelled gaining our attention as she ran up to Owen.
"We have a situation." She stated before Owen followed her into a tent and I gave my brother a look before the both of us followed after them.
"I thought all the evacuations had already happened". De Leon commented as we walked in.
"That was before the wind shifted". Owen told him.
"How many people are up there?" He asked looking at the woman who called him.
