your pov:

maybe it was supposed to happen you know? guy meets girl. girl falls desperately in love with guy. guy falls for girl. guy gets scared. guy leaves girl.

sometimes i wish that guy didn't have to be you.

sean and i met when we were both teenagers. the kind of kids that were shoved out of any friend groups. the kind of kids that people shun because they aren't pumping their guts full of alcohol or ingesting nicotine into their lungs.

just two kids who fit in everywhere and belonged no where.

two kids who found comfort in one another. who belonged with one another. destined to lose each other.

*flashback*

sean was the kind of kid that everyone loved. but no one cared enough to like. i was the kind that everyone could've liked if they would've just given it the chance.

"i wish we had something to do. or somewhere to go." sean said, his hands pinched between his head and floor, showing off his biceps that were becoming increasingly bigger. i made so much fun of him for that.

i sighed. "yea. especially since it's new year's eve." he looked at me as i sat criss cross in front of his head, occasionally running my fingers through his hair.

"i can't believe my mom got called into work. i thought we would spend the night together. since my dad is working anyway." he explained.

we had planned to spend the day together either way. but i understand his hurt. my parents are never home. sometimes i appreciate how hard they work. other times i feel like an orphan.

"at least we have each other." i stated calmly. looking into his eyes from above him. peter and mary jane style.

he smiled subtly. "yea." he quietly stated looking into my eyes, his becoming softened and glazed.

my hand ran through his hair again. scratching gently. his posture softening at the touch.

"you know y/n i never thought i'd be this comfortable with someone. girls always just seem to make me scared and nervous. but with you, i feel at home." he explained.

i laughed in disagreement. "sean please. don't act like you don't know how to act around girls. even if it's just a little." i rebutted.

his mouth opened wide in surprise of my compliment in the form of an insult, a chuckle threatening to fall out. "what do you mean?" he giggled.

"oh please. yesterday at class when those girls came up to you? you were totally flirting.'" he laughed hysterically at my teasing.

his eyes squinting shut which i always thought was adorable. "i don't know what you mean." he refuses. his arms crossed over his chest and and smiled innocently.

"oh you don't? does "oh my abs? they're nothing really." ring any bells for you?" i asked him. those girls had told him how muscular he'd gotten and how they'd noticed his growth. all giggly and puppy eyed trying to act supportive and innocent. when really they were just coming onto him. and he loved it. i'd be lying if i said i wasn't disgusted.

but jealousy doesn't sit right with me so ignored it.

i laughed along with him. "you noticed that?" he said in the midst of his laughing fit.

i laughed louder. "yes i noticed that! everyone noticed that!" i exposed him laughing as his face got a little pink.

we both laughed until our chest started pulsing. "fuuck!" he said whining. but deep
down we both knew he loved it. "you know i didn't actually wanna flirt with those girls." he said, his laughter dying down.
