“How many more times Jay?” You ask, standing on the other side of the bars

“How many more times Jay?” You ask, standing on the other side of the bars. Wearing jeans and a button-up shirt that was wrinkled, he couldn’t have been more disheveled in appearance.

Your boyfriend was arrested again. And Jay made sure he never processed at the 21st district either. Whenever he felt reckless, he drove away from that district’s direction.

It would be deeply embarrassing for you and for him being as the two of you were detectives in Intelligence. Holding Jay in a cell would be awkward for Trudy and the other officers.

Ever since his father died and then a big fight with Will occurred shortly after, Jay couldn’t seem to keep it together. And he’s had a hard time trying to clean his act up since then too.

Driving over the speed limit and teasing cop cars wasn’t a Halstead thing to do so you were confused as to why he was acting like this.

“You know everybody is being lenient right now because they know about your father, but how many times can you use this excuse? Two years from now wouldn’t be an acceptable reason for your behavior.” You paused to take a deep breath and then looked into his eyes.

You frowned and continued the confrontation when he only replied to your first comment with a simple shrug. “And you know Hank will secure your spot if you need to go to rehab or see a therapist. And if you won’t talk to me you need help from a professional.”

Glaring at your brunette boyfriend and pleading with him at the same time, you waited for a response. He sighed and leaned his forehead on the bars, wishing that you would embrace him.

But knowing that was his usual gesture when he wanted you to massage his hair and neck, you ignored him.

Instead since you knew he was looking down, you tapped your foot instead and waited for a response. “Well? Jay what will it be?”

Glancing down at the apple watch on your wrist, you noticed it was time to leave and head to the precinct soon.

“Can we just go to work now?” Jay questioned in a blurt. Resting his arms through the bars, he subtly tried to reach for your hand but you moved it away quickly and placed them both down by your sides in fists of frustration.

“Nope, I have to go but Officer Y/M/N (your made-up name) said that they will come back to check up on you soon. You know, give you a bathroom break, serve you a sandwich and all that.” You smirked and backed up, noticing his astonished face.

“What? You’re going to leave me here for the day?” Jay asked with a face still full of shock. You couldn’t help but feel a little guilty when he raised his arms up and banged them repeatedly against the bars in confusion.

He spoke up again more loudly this time with a shake of his head and disapproval written all over his face. “What are you going to tell Voight? He doesn't know I’m here. The other night was my last warning!”

You shrugged and started walking out but not before turning your head to the side and waving your hand around nonchalantly, saying one last thing, “I’ll tell him your home, running a cold so you’re taking a personal day.”

“Wait, you can’t leave me here!” Jay said, banging on the bars dramatically but it was no use. You were done and fed up.

𝗟𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗻𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, Jay walked through the door while you were holding a mug of coffee. Standing in the kitchen and leaning against one of the counters, you sipped it carefully while dangerous steam arose around your lips.

He dropped the ring of keys on the table and plopped down on the couch with a sigh. “Did you really have to leave me in jail all day for a lesson?

With the coffee mug still in hand, you walked over to the living room and sat down on the ottoman in front of Jay.

He was still sprawled out on the couch with his eyes closed from exhaustion when you said, “Yeah babe, I did. It seems like you needed it though since you’re home now and not driving out again driving around God knows where. Did you at least learn the lesson?”

He blinked his eyes a few times and swept a hand through his ruffled hair, sitting up slowly with a wince. “Yes and I appreciate everything you’ve been doing for me lately. I’m sorry baby, It’s just been hard. My father and I never really reconciled and now this thing with Will.”

After setting down the coffee mug on the coffee table, you got up from the soft ottoman and sat down on the couch next to Jay instead.

Putting your hand over his, you pulled his fingers away from his hair so he didn’t tug all the strands out from aggravation.

He looked over at you with a guilty grin, once again realizing you were helping. But you just continued staring at him for a minute without saying a word.

Jay always thought you were cute, mad or not so the serious look you were giving him only had him chuckling. “Why are you laughing? It’s not funny, Jay.” You mumbled.

Jay pulled you in and wrapped his arms around your body, hugging you close so you couldn’t get away from his embrace.

While you were trying to push his arms away playfully, he leaned in and murmured into your ear. “I didn’t mean to laugh. It’s just that you know that face doesn’t scare me and I’m so sorry it won’t happen again. I don’t want to scare or upset you anymore, my love.”

You tilted your head up while Jay looked down at your face. Already knowing Jay was right, you paid no attention and focused on the seriousness, whispering. “You promise?” He nodded.

And you moved your position, turning in his lap. With an arm around your waist still, Jay held you to his chest. Holding a pinky up you gestured towards his hand. “Pinky promise?”

After wrapping his smallest finger around yours, he kissed your forehead and grabbed the remote. “Wanna watch a movie?” He questioned and you nodded, leaning your back against his chest.

Already knowing tomorrow that you’d help Jay make-up with Will, you couldn’t help but get comfortable and feel content in his arms.

“Oh and by the way, today didn’t go on the record. I promised Officer Y/M/N they could transfer and learn under one of Trudy’s most trusted officer’s.” You admitted and chuckled at the glare on his face.
