On his way home Earth passed by a bank. One glance at it reminded him of a particular moment of his conversation with Mix—I'm not going to pay the rent this month—Earth promised Mix to explain it to his father but there was no way Earth could say that Mix didn't want to pay the rent; no matter how good the reason for it was.

For Earth's father, money came first and then everything else. Even if his father would agree with paying the renovation fee, he would never give up on his money. So Earth got a better idea. Mix wasn't going to pay, except Earth's father won't know that.

Fifteen minutes later, Earth walked out of the bank, additional 36 000 baht safely included with the rest of the collected rent.

.....

"Did the Wongratch pay, Earth?" His father repeated the question.

"Yes, everyone did pay," Earth put the envelope with all the collected money in front of his father. "You can count it if you don't believe me."

"No need. I trust you," his father took the envelope, bend down to the safe built inside the mahogany desk and put the envelope in.

"That would be for the first time," Earth mumbled under his breath.

"Did you say something?"

"No," Earth sat back to the armchair. "So about the renovation money—"

"Here," Earth's father took out a chequebook and filled in all the needed information.

Earth took the cheque, from his father—50 000 baht. "Add one more zero."

"What? There's no way it's going to cost that much."

"It's not that much for you, please," Earth tried to suppress his disgusted face—he hated begging his father for anything.

His father looked at him sceptically but still added another zero at the end. "Is it good now?"

Earth took the cheque again, smiling, "yes, thank you."

"I suppose you are going back there now to hand them the cheque."

"Yeah. I'm going there to hand the cheque," besides other things. Earth held the cheque tightly, about to leave.

"Wait," his father stopped him. "And I suppose you also won't tell me where were you last night."

"Do you care?"

Earth's father was quiet, staring at his desk instead of Earth.

"Thought so," Earth laughed bitterly, "but if it helps you—I was somewhere where I was happy."

"Uhmm— before you go, take one of my bodyguards to stay with you until we found out what's going on."

"Fine, but I want Jay," Earth said and left without waiting for his father's approval.
