- Chapter 33: Alexithymia -

Wiping beads of sweat from his forehead, Eliaster heaved out a sigh as the sun beat down mercilessly.

Odd jobs weren't hard to come by, but God were some of them taxing. It wasn't like he didn't have his quirk to help him with the heavy lifting, but after a full days work it was really wearing him down.

I don't remember building being this labor inducing. God, I really have gotten old, haven't I? He huffed out another sigh as he dusted some dirt from his tunic.

Lucky for him, this would be his last job for a bit. A couple thousand was surely enough to get to where ever Vincent needed him. Right? He'd figure it out. Eliaster would truly never be able to fully accept that a loaf of factory made bread was over five dollars and not a coin or two anymore. Everything was so expensive in the modern era, but that's what you get when the economy goes to shit. Where did humanity go oh so wrong?

The work wasn't all bad though, despite the blistering heat and his evident dehydration, it resurfaced memories from centuries ago (some unpleasant and most fond). Building back then was a hell of a lot harder than it is today. Plus, having to haul a ten ton rock on a wood pallet in the desert sand was a little less than desirable. Kept him and his family fed though, so it wasn't like it wasn't worth it. He'd do it all again if given the chance.

"That'll about do it for today." A belated voice came from behind Eliaster.

The long hair male turned on his heel to face his boss for the day. "Really? You sure you don't want me to help move that other pallet? Looks pretty heavy."

The middle aged man wiped some sweat from his maw and gestured in a waving motion. "Nah. Got it from here. Thank you for your help though." He held out a wad of cash in his gloved hand. "It was much appreciated."

"Thank you for the work." Eliaster expressed his gratitude as he pocketed the wad of cash, a smile decorated his almost feminine features.

Eliaster ambled off into a shaded area provided by a tree for a well eared rest. The subtle breeze that swept passed him kissed his moist skin, cooling him down in a very pleasant manner. One could even say flirtatious, like the way a drizzle pecks the skin softly.

Retrieving his phone from his tunic pocket, he punched in his pin (but only after messing it up several times). His long talon like tails tapped the glossy screen as he pouted. You'd think that having lived such a long life patience would be something done pat, but no, not for Eliaster. Anticipation was no better than torture.

Such as awaiting direct orders from his fellow Don, Vincent. He made the money to get where he needed to go, the easy part was over. Now, was the hard (and admittedly the worst) part; the waiting game.

Gods, he hated this. Why couldn't Vin have just called when he had already figured out a date? A thousand questions ran through the short man's head. What happened to all for one? What would this upcoming meeting entail? Who would take over as head don? Eliaster all but answered that question himself, it would most likely be Vincent of all people. He'd never take the job, too much work and too much time. Thoughts of the short Tempered Italian only served to conjure more unanswerable questions. How were his boys? Since when did he take in a girl? Where did she come from? How was she? What purpose did she serve?
