- Chapter 36: Unsuspecting Savior -

Sunako groaned under the weight of her own body. Damn, she really was sore. The added weight of her wet clothing was of no help, either.

In the midst of her shifting, she failed to realize the only door in the ally open and a man step out with leisure.

"Well I'll be damned." His tone came playfully, causing Sunako to shift her sights up to a gap toothed gentleman, clad in what she'd consider the ugliest suit ever sewn together.

"What?" Sunako did her best glare with what little energy she had, which wasn't much. Her glare held the same level of intimidation as a puppy. She didn't recognize this man, maybe he was a past patient? Who knew. "Who are you?" She questioned bluntly.

The man chuckled with a toothed smile, his eyes squinting as he removed the cigar from the corner of his mouth. "Giran, and you're the doctor." The broker watched confusion and realization wash over her face all in the matter of a few seconds. "What? Did big boss man not tell you about 'ol me?" He studied her dirty appearance and furrowed his brows. "The hell 'ya doing out here like a dog?"

Sunako's Visage really did harden at all his words. Of course he knew them. I'm not even surprised. Honestly, nothing was surprising anymore. Everything was like a bad joke. She averted her gaze from his (hideous) get up. "No. He- no. I-" She paused to sort her thoughts. Did I escape or did I run away? Is that the same thing? "I left." She settled.

Giran's smile faltered as he ran a hand through his light colored hair. "What do you mean you left? What, did 'ya just walk out the front door?"

A sheepish look overtook her and she didn't respond immediately, giving him his answer.

"Fucking 'a. Kid doesn't know what he's doin'." The older man ran a hand down his face with a grumble. A moment of silence washed over the two before he spoke up again, placing his hands in his pockets and turning to leave. "Look girl, I ain't going to tattle or force you to go back. That's not my job. So, as far as you and I are concerned. I didn't see 'ya." He blew out a puff of thick smoke before be startled ambling away, his demeanor careless and relaxed.

Sunako watched his retreating form before biting her tongue and cursing. "Wait!" She flinched at her own words. "Please."

He threw a glance over his shoulder and stood idle for several moments before cursing to himself and making his way back over to her battered form. "I got a tight schedule, what?"

"I need to go back..." God those words tasted like poison. "I have to." She finished.

His face was incredulous. "You want to go back to that hell hole? He got you under some kinda spell?" His small framed glasses slipped down his nose.

"N-no! It's not like that! It's just..." Her words trailed off as she searched for correct ones to fill in. Her eyes shifted to his dress shoes, embarrassment and shame forcing her to shrink in on herself. So, it was an obvious startle when she felt an arm wrap around her midsection and hoisted her up onto her feet.

"You can explain later." Giran stated bluntly as some cigar smoke pelted her in the face, making her nose shrivel up in disgust, but she wouldn't complain. She was in no spot to complain. "I got an apartment, you can recoop there and then you can go back to that psycho for all I give a damn." He draped his tacky purple coat over her shoulders.
