- Chapter 16: Bitter Harbinger -
Sunako stirred in her sleep before abruptly shooting up at the sound of glass breaking. Hopping to her feet with imbalance, she frantically glanced around for the cause. Spotting the silhouette of Shigaraki in the dimly lit kitchen, she reluctantly eased.
Stumbling over to him, she narrowed her eyes. "The hell're you doing?" She squinted, it was hard to make out, but she could see small pieces of shattered glass across the floor. Sunako groaned. "If you wanted something to drink you should've woke me up. I don't want to have to buy new cups too." He's accident prone, I swear.
He scoffed indignantly as he hunched himself forward. "I don't need your help." he growled out.
"Sure you don't." she rolled her brilliant eyes before catching a glimpse of the clock past Shigaraki. 8pm?! There's NO WAY I slept for fifteen straight hours! That's ridiculous! She stole a glance out her now out of commission back door. Yep, it's dark alright. Officer Deva should be by soon. And as that though completed itself, there was a knock at the door. A startled brainwave slapped Sunako and she glared at Shigaraki, though he hadn't known about her quirk, she still didn't appreciate it. "Stay here." she whispered before making her way up to the front door.
She unlocked and opened it. "Hey officer Deva. It's that time already?"
He quirked up an eyebrow at her. "Yeah, eight already. Are you feeling any better?" An uneasy feeling overwhelmed him and he hesitantly used his quirk; danger meter. With enough concentration, a faint orange number appeared over Sunako's head, reading a solid 60%.
Sunako furrowed her brows together. What's he doin'? His brainwaves were short and solid with a rhythm, though she didn't need to use her quirk to know that. His strained face gave that away. She glanced up above her head. "Is there something there? Is it a bug?" she questioned him.
"Oh! Ah, no! No bug!" he stammered out frantically, his voice jumping in pitch as the number abruptly vanished. "Um," he brought his voice down to a whisper and leaned in a little. "Are you sure you're okay? There hasn't been anything weird happening, right?"
Oh, God please leave. I feel so bad for lying. "Y-yeah. Why wouldn't I be? I'm just a little sick. Nothing weird here!" She shot him a smile coupled with a small chuckle that left her throat dry. "Speaking of being sick, I should probably go back to bed. It was nice talking. See you tomorrow morning." She retreated back into her home, leaving him no room to object and promptly locked the door. She could feel him brainwaves linger for a few moments before he left and she released a sigh as she downcast her gaze. I'm sorry... This isn't what I wanted.
"I'm hungry." Shigaraki's abruptly rough voice startled Sunako as her whole body tensed. Flipping on the living room light, Shigaraki instinctively held up a hand to shield his eyes.
He acts like he's allergic to light. She crossed her arms over her chest. "I don't think I have all the ingredients I need to make a proper dish." Not that I now how to make many 'proper' dishes. "There's a corner store about a mile from here. I could-"
He glared. "You're really going to make me repeat myself, aren't you?" his tone was harsh. "I said you're not leaving."
Guess I'm not leaving. Sunako let out a deep sigh. "Alright, then I could order take out. Is that fine?" She shot him an accusatory glare. Not like I could really ASK for help anyway. Not only did I help Shigaraki, but now I'm buying food, and covering for him. My brothers would be so proud. Fun.
