- Chapter 7: Meguro -

Sunako thanked the cab driver with a small, tired smile before shutting the door and turning toward the nearly empty train station. Sunako pulled her phone from her pocket and checked the time. 8:03pm. I still have some time. Pocketing the small, nearly dead device, she made her way up the few stairs and over to the ticket booth and bought her 9pm ticket quickly and without problem. She looks exhausted. Sunako thought as she stole a glance back at the booth worker. I guess dealing with people in a rush 24/7 will do that to you. Not to say Sunako's job wasn't tiring, but it was a bit better.

Sunako made her way into the dimly lit station, handed off her ticket, then to her train's platform where a handful of other people stood. Spotting a vending machine, her stomach audibly grumbled, begging for food. Sauntering over to the tall, colorful machine, Sunako looked to see what it made. Ramen. I guess it's better than nothing. Without much thought, she pulled some money from her bag and inserted it into the food dispensing machine and it happily ate it, ironically. She feeds it and it'll feed her. As she waited for the instant food to be made, she casually glanced around her surroundings. There were scrape marks on the concrete beneath the vending machine. I thought this was new. I never noticed it before. The nurse comment in her head. Pulling her gaze from the scrape marks, she glanced to the few people sharing the platform with her. They all look exhausted. Long day's work I suppose. Sunako also figured this by the weak brainwaves they were all letting off. They didn't really hit her like a fully conscious and aware person's would, they just sorta bumped and bounced off. It was a pleasant change of pace. The hospital is a hot spot for hectic brainwaves. Half the time Sunako questioned herself as to why she'd choose to work in a hospital of all places.

"Enjoy!" The robotic female voice of the machine broke Sunako of her absent minded gazing. Turning back to the colorful box, she took the outstretched ramen bowl, the delightful smell wafting her nostrils and the heat warming her hands. This is so much better than that dirty warehouse and blood... Grabbing a pair of chopsticks, she took the ramen and sat down on a near by bench. "Thank you." Sunako quietly whispered her thanks to the machine from a distance.

About 45 minutes and a bowl of ramen later the final train for Meguro pulled in. Only three people tiredly stumbled off the public transportation before Sunako and the handful of people from the desolate platform stepped on. It didn't take long for people to loosen their ties, set their bags aside, slump down into the hard plastic seats, and pass out. This only further made the ride more peaceful for Sunako.

A sleeping person is the best. She happily thought to herself as she watched the passing scenery. Even at night things are so bright, She felt a grin tug at her lips. But it's nothing like New York. Back when Sunako lived in the states, she and her older brothers were staying in New York. They had originally been staying in a pretty sizable city in California and they had ended up moving everything New York, but Sunako never really remembered why, though she never really dwelled on that fact. She was just happy and thankful enough to remember how brilliant and beautiful the city was at night. The city that never sleeps is an understatement.

The train pulled to a steady stop and with a 'ding' the doors of the train opened. Those who were awake woke up those who managed to fall asleep and soon everyone had left. Sunako stood on the platform as unease crept it's way into her. She had been with people the whole time and now that she was alone the uncertainty and eeriness of everything was getting to her.

Come on Sunako. You've walked home from the station for years. Everything is fine. With a gulp and tight grip on her bag, she left the station and started her usual rout home. It was dark, with a street light every twenty yards or so. Every small sound made Sunako tense up considerably. Kurogiri's words kept playing on a loop in her head.
