Heya everyone! So sorry for the sudden hiatus on the book! I have six cats and they love to lay on me while I type and my cat Marbles hooked her claw under the space bar and I pulled her up and it snapped, but I've gotten a new keyboard now! And I'm also in the process of working with a multitude of other books, rewriting and what not. This chapter is a bit shorter than what I normally write because I wrote it on my phone, so my apologies.
So, thank you all so so much for your patience!
- Chapter 22: Sink In -
The league. Who the FUCK is this supposed "league"? Hideki angrily threw back a shot and slammed the small glass onto the polished wooden bar top (surprised that the glass hadn't shattered). Anger management was something he was normally good at.
The ravenette clenched his jaw and ran a hand through his messy, unwashed hair. His golden eyes narrowed in deep thought causing his eyebrows to wrinkle and his forehead to crease. His quirk kept him looking young, but he swore the stress he was under would bring out his true age and that was something he'd rather avoid.
It's been only a few days, if not a week, and the only thing plaguing his mind was his little sister. Was she okay? Was she safe? What was happening with her? A multitude of questions circulated his mind.
Hideki and the other three hadn't expected much when Liu came "bearing news". The snake man was always one to embellish and exaggerate his findings (it was clear to everyone who had eyes that he was a fan of theatrics), so not much was expected even if it was regarding Sunako. What he, they, hadn't expected was that it was weeks of compiled research, news articles, and photos.
Of course they didn't take the white haired man seriously at first. Who would have? The last time he pulled this stunt was when she was fifteen and crushing on a local boy.
But, he never would've expected to be handed a file revolving around the abduction of his little sister and a supposed "league of villains" ('who the hell would even call themselves that?!' He had wondered). The far from tipsy man glanced at his phone before pouring himself another drink (Sunset Rum to be specific and though the bottle strongly urged the consumer to mix it or dilute it with something, Hideki didn't. Preferring the pure burn that seared his throat).
Who the hell would call themselves a damn league? 'Ya need fuckin' numbers to be a "league"... He stole a glance at the vanilla folder before flipping it open. The burly man sipped his drink and found the page he wanted. The word "league" tasted sour in his mouth and the thought of it alone was enough to make him want to drink away his sober state (he much preferred Sunset Rum's burn over the sour after taste the league left him with).
The page held general information about said league as well as eight photos and a ridiculous amount of paperclips (honestly, why not use staples?). He studied the pictures for a long while, re-reading all the compiled information a dozen times more (if asked he could probably recite everything word for word). All the information irked something within him and it wasn't just the fact that they chose to screw with his little sister, his family. What gnawed at him was the fact that he (a well renounced gang leader with many connections) had never heard anything about them and apparently they were a big deal. The long haired male found himself cycling through the same several questions like a broken record, which only served to piss him off further because he knew they couldn't be answered (or rather he didn't want them answered because he already knew the answers himself).
He recalled forgotten memories of a time when his beloved sister was all there. He wouldn't trade her for the world, not even now that she was missing some of her precious memories and living halfway across the world. Hideki figured it was better that way, but now he was second guessing that thought immensely. Was it better? Was she really better off being away from them? Was she really safer not remembering...? He couldn't quite answer that himself and even if he could be given a definitive answer, he probably wouldn't want to hear it. They always say "ignorance is bliss", but he was finding that phrase to be total bull shit.
