- Chapter 10: Missing Information -
"Hideki! Hey! I didn't think you'd answer." Sunako smiled at the lament title floor.
"Hey Sunako. How've you been?" Her big brother's voice rang, only slightly distorted through the phone's speaker, but she didn't mind.
Sunako pondered. "Well," So, he doesn't know? That's surprising. He always knows everything that's going on in my life. Sometimes I think he has a clairvoyant quirk or something. Maybe it's the country barrier? "I've been better, honestly." Not a total lie. She knew if she told him he'd have her and everything thing she owned on the next flight out of Japan and that was the last thing she wanted. Sunako had made a life of her own and she enjoyed the freedoms, even if it was at the cost of seeing her family.
Sunako could hear commotion in the background on Hideki's end and smiled to herself, knowing full well what the commotion was. "Could be better? What's up? Somethin' happen? I could always fly you back-"
Called it. "Nah," she cut him and his protective ways off. "Just work kicking my ass-"
"Language." He corrected sternly, his deep voice becoming more garbled through the phone speaker.
I guess calling from thousands of miles away will do something to the quality of a call, won't it? "Yeah, yeah. Work's kicking my butt." She corrected herself with a playful snicker. Acts more like my dad than my big brother. "I'm not five anymore y'know." Always an older brother. Even oceans away. How long would a boat ride be? She shuddered at the thought. I hate boats.
Hideki chuckled deeply with amusement. "Yeah, you are and maybe if 'ya stopped picking up-"
"Hey! Is that Sun?!" A cheerful voice echoed over the line. A smile could practically be heard riding his voice as the scuffling sound of movement could be heard in the distant background. Sunako knew exactly who that pleasant voice belonged to.
"Get back Leighton. Call her on your own-"
"Oh, calm down Hideki. You always have a stick up your ass." No fun. As always. She smiled to herself in merriment, pushing some of her hair out of her vision.
"Butt Sunako! Butt!" He called out sternly as he continued to shoo off the younger boy.
"Hey Sun!" Leighton called out joyously. "We miss you! You're brother is being- hey don't push me!"
Sunako stayed silent as she listened to the scene unfold on her brother's end of the line. At least he's not hitting him.
"Is that little Sunny on the phone?" A deep, velvet like voice came. "Tell the little thing I said hello."
"I'm not little anymore Kallen!" Sunako pouted with her proclamation to the sly man. His snark snickers rang out making the nurse pout more. He better have heard me. Jerk.
"Sun! Hey!" Leighton huffed into the microphone.
"Manage to get the phone away from Hideki?" Sunako asked curiously, shifting her weight from foot to foot. I should've just called from my phone. I hate having to stand next to this thing.
"Yeah. Haha." The younger boy stated between loud, labored breaths. It sounded as if he had just finished running a marathon.
He sounds like he's doing well. I'm glad. "And how'd you manage that exactly? Hideki isn't exactly a small guy."
