- Chapter 17: Snake -

Hideki dragged his caramel colored finger across the rim of his whiskey glass in thought. Kallen, Damon, and Leighton also occupied the room as they did their own things. Simply having each other's presence was enough to where no words needed to be spoken.

Kallen, prim, proper, and sly as he was had taken his perfectly tailored coat off, draped it neatly over the back of his chair, and rolled the sleeves of his dress shirt up. The pristine white of his shirt drastically contrasting with his dark ebony skin as he smirked at his computer screen. Hideki never chose to question his antics, he'd never be given a straight answer even if his very life deepened on it, but one could assume he was looking at something or someone he liked; prey for a better lack of words. Hideki and the others were the only ones lucky enough to know and call Kallen by his real name and not be caught in his intricate web of manipulation.

Glancing over to the youngest, messy haired blonde, Leighton, Hideki sipped at his hard drink. The sweet yet stinging sensation of the liquor warmed his throat. Leighton leaned back in his seat, thin muscleless legs propped up on the table as he clicked away at his phone. A look of concentration plastered across his ashen face as his pastel yellow eyes narrowed, pupils shrinking with more light they took in. Probably playing a game of sorts. A few strands of his platinum blonde hair, that looked to have gone weeks without brushing, fell into his face. Hastily, he bat it away and in the process slapped his cochlear implant, making the magnetic hearing device shift and him wince from the deafness that ensued.

Past Leighton, in the back corner of the bar, sat Damon in a booth, who was hyper focused on his current task. Normal trench coat draped over his lap, his gloved hands worked with the small red casing of a custom bullet. His long sleeves bunched at his elbows as the beige color of the bandage poked out to greet the world. Damon was always furthest from the others, especially if he was working, not wanting his comrades to come into contact with his unconventional quirk.

Not minding Hideki's trained stare, he continued filling each small bullet with the blood he'd drawn earlier. Occasionally, the light glinted off the two silver earrings in his ear. Sometimes he cursed Sunako for convincing him to pierce it.

Should really find someone to do the work for him. Hideki thought as his stern visage studied Damon's steady, careful, precise movements. Then again, don't think he'd ever trust another person to work with his "art".

It had been a good couple weeks since Sunako's last call, which was more than unusual for her. Hideki stole a glance at his cell phone that sat across the table. All notifications silence besides Sunako's.

She calls every other night, even if we aren't there to answer. The long haired male sipped his drink, the ice pecking his lips. I wonder if something happened. Did she finally get fed up? We can't reach her. I can't reach her.

"Now, why's the atmosphere heavy with dread?" A seductive voice reverberated from the doorway.

Not needing to look up to know who had spoken, Leighton greeted him. "Hey Liu."

Glancing over his shoulder, Hideki grunted at a friend of his, Liu Wei, or better known as the leader of the Chinese crime syndicate operated in Chinatown. Though, his people were better known as Triads, but, theatrical as he is, Liu hated being called either of those things. Though, that never stopped anyone.

Liu smirked at Hideki as his tongue slithered out instinctively. He looked to be something straight out of a story book.

"Is that anyway to greet your friend?" The crimson eyed male purred as he walked up behind Hideki's chair. His movements were so fluent that one could almost think Kallen's neon strings were puppeting his slender body. "You seem tense." Liu brushed some of Hideki's long raven hair over his shoulder with his paper white fingers. Such beautiful hair.
