Hey everyone! I'm so so SO sorry about disappearing for months. A lot has been going on, my parents are divorcing, I (apparently) have a new sibling, I had some more skin graphing done to my burns, work has been kicking my ass, i officially have no computer, whatever and what not. Life.
Shit happens.
I was also Fandom hopping and developed an unhealthy obsession with the Daycare Attendant from Fnaf... and Megatron from Transformers... haha...
No excuse, I neglected this book and writing all together. I apologize.
- Chapter 37: Broke & Broker -
Stray streams of morning light filtered in through the disheveled curtains, illuminating the room with a warm glow (as well as the dust particles that floated about). Giran exhaled a plume of gray smoke as he lazily flipped his eggs (over easy to get specific, not that he particularly cared). Eggs are eggs and food is food.
The broker stole a glance at the couch where Sunako lay. She was unmoving, undisturbed, and looked at peace. This situation seemed so familiar when he thought about it; someone in need of help crashing on his couch.
Someone affiliated with the league, no less.
He dragged his eyes from her still figure and focused on his nearly burnt eggs. What could he say? He wasn't a chef and eggs were iffy (at least to him). Nobody was perfect.
Still though, this situation was uncomfortably familiar to him. The broker snuffed out his cigarette and plated his eggs, there'd be rice too, but he forgot to buy that coming game from big boy Shigaraki's tantrum. Shuffling could be heard from the couch area and he chose to be blissfully unaware as he sprinkled some pepper onto his food.
Sunako squinted as the light hit her dry eyes and a yawn escaped her cotton mouth. Her bones felt like they had been replaced by lead as she slowly sat herself up into a sitting position. The weight of her eyelids begged her to return to her slumber, she would not oblige.
She noticed several things all at once; the soft light from the windows, the smell of something cooking, and, by far the most notable of them all, a calm set of brainwaves poking her in the back of her head with steady repetition. She didn't doubt they were Giran's, but she'd pretend they weren't there for the given moment, she had other objectives before anything else, the first being water. She swallowed thickly.
I feel sick... A groan escaped her as her toes kissed the cold floor. She cleared her throat. "I take it you didn't make anything for me...?" Her voice was hoarse and made her sound like she had swallowed sand paper. It was an uncomfortable scratch she couldn't quite clear. It wasn't that she expected breakfast in bed and this place certainly was not a bed and breakfast by any means, but it would've been nice.
A girl could dream.
"Well, good morning to you too. And no," Giran scraped his chopsticks against the plate. "I only had two eggs left and I didn't expect a roommate." He half joked as he ate what remained of his breakfast.
Sunako snorted dryly at his words. "I won't bother you too long, don't worry." She gestured with her hand.
"You ain't bothering me kid, I'm just a busy man." His smile could be felt in his brainwaves, his words genuine. Sincerity was a delightful feeling on her. "Besides, you're welcome to stay after the little fit Shigaraki threw." He lit up another cigarette with a lighter that was, ironically, shaped like a revolver. It was so tacky and gimmicky. She almost laughed at the absurdity.
Sunkao gave him an inquisitive look as she brushed some hair from her face. He continued.
"Let's just say, you stay and I get paid a pretty penny, until you're ready to leave of course. I'm not a monster." He chuckled from the belly, both at her perplexed (but, frankly not amused) expression and at the memory of last night.
