The next day at school I meet with my best friend, Evynne, at my locker. Evynne is one of the only girls, other than me, who hasn't found their soulmate yet out of my friend group. The race is on between the two of us. "So, did either of you find anything out about a soulmate over the weekend?"
"Spencer did," I say as I grab my Stats textbook and binder out of my locker, "his soulmate is this girl named Isla who lives in Wales." I shut my locker after grabbing both.
"That's amazing. Have they set up a day to meet up yet?"
"No, not yet. Isla's trying to convince her parents to come visit us. It's a long plane ride to us here in Iowa."
"That's true. Plus there's not a whole lot to do here."
"Well, I hope Spencer's able to see Isla soon, and hope you run into your soulmate." She winks at me. "I do too." The warning bell goes off. "I have to get to class. See you soon?"
"See you in second hour, York." She walks off to her first hour class and I race halfway across the hallway to my Stats classroom. Why does my locker have to be so far away from homeroom? I guess I'll never know.On my way to my Dance hour, I wasn't really paying attention and bump into one of the most popular boys in my class. I look back at him. "Sorry!" I say, freaking out over the fact that I just bumped into him. No color. Phew. Glad he's not "the one". Before I'm able to move on, he stops me. "You're Serena, right?"
I pause. "...Yeah, why?"
"I was just wondering. I've heard a lot about you."
"Really? What've you heard?"
"I've heard that you have yet to find your soulmate."
"...Um, yeah, that's correct. I haven't yet. I really hope to soon, though." I sigh. "Please don't make fun of me for it.""I won't. I found mine and we're currently together, but I wish you good luck on your journey." He pauses. "I'm Ollie, by the way."
"Nice to meet you, Ollie. I'll see you around." I don't let him say another word as I race towards my Dance classroom. I don't want him to worry about me. I'll find my soulmate on my own.
