Okay. It's been more than a few minutes at this point. Is my message really that long, or is he confirming it's okay for us to meet up tomorrow?
I guess that could be it too. I quickly go ahead and do the same
"Mo-om?"
"What's up, Serena?"
"We're not doing anything important tomorrow, right?"
"No... why?" Before I could say anything else, the lightbulb clicks on. "Oh! Let me guess - Lance?"
I roll my eyes jokingly at her. "No..." I pause. "Of course it's Lance!"
"Yeah, you can see him tomorrow - no problem at all."
"Okay! I thought so, but I'd just thought I'd double check." I shrug. I glance at my phone, sighing. "Why hasn't he confirmed?"
"He probably got busy. Maybe you confirm it first?"
Hm. Maybe. I shoot him another text confirming I'm free tomorrow.
Strange... He's typing.
"He's been typing the whole time?"
"Hmm... Long love letter?" She jokes.
"Mom!" I exclaim embarrassedly. "It's time to be serious!"
"Sorry, sorry." She chuckles. "Serious face... on." Her expression changes to a poker face, but not for long as she laughs at herself more.
I eventually started to laugh with her. I couldn't take her seriously anymore either.
Ping!
"Oh hey, there he is." My phone screen lights up.
His text reads: Cool, see you tomorrow. I'll call you later so we can work out the small details.
I smile a little. "He's probably going to call me later. Just letting you know."
"'Kay." Mom responds. "You're such a lucky duck."
"Oh stop it. I mean, I know, but you don't need to rub that fact in."
"Yes I do."
I shake my head and head back to my room. He said he'd call me later, but later must have meant 30 seconds from the last message, because my phone starts going crazy in both vibrations and my ringtone.
"Dang, Lance," I chuckle. "Just can't leave me alone, huh?" I picked up the phone after confirming it was actually him.
"Helloooo?" I say into the phone. I just hear a breath from behind the phone. "Laaance?"
"Huh? What? Oh - hi Serena. Honestly I totally forgot I called you."
"You literally just called me. Is your memory that bad?"
"No, I just wasn't expecting you to actually pick up."
"Why not?"
"'Cause I said 'later'."
"Later can mean literally any time after a certain thing."
"...You're right, but I thought maybe you were busy."
"Then why call?"
"To test you."
I hum a little. "O-kay then... So, shall we figure out where we're meeting tomorrow?"
"May as well," he chuckles, "I got the 'OK'."
"So did I. My mom's pretty lenient."
"Seems that way."
