I finish the song after a few minutes, and Lance applauds.

"You know, you just made that song -- our song -- just ten times better."

I smile as he continues speaking. "You just made my day."

I switch the tab back to Josh Woodward's site. "Yay! ...Okay... Are you ready to learn this?"

"As ready as I'll ever be. What're working with first?"

"I figure I'll play through it once to give you the overview. Then we'll focus on your lyrics - you start it off. I won't play along until you think you have them... I've downloaded the instrumental track to help with timing."

"Oh, fun." He says in a sarcastic tone.

"It is, I promise! I do eventually join you towards the end."

He laughs. "Okay, okay, okay."

I click play on the song and I play and sing along.

"The day that we met

I'll never forget

I knew from the moment she spoke

The she, was destined to be

My favorite regret..."

I would play until the song ended. I take a breath and look at Lance. "You ready?"

He nods. "Let's go."

He mimics me to help him get the rhythm of the song down. "...Seriously, trying to match my pitch and everything?"

He laughs. "Okay, I get it - sorry ... for real this time."

He goes after the first verse again, getting it almost instantly. I show him the second verse, singing it through once before he does. He repeats it. "You're a natural at this." He smiles.

We continue going through the whole song, verse by verse. I add in my verses.

"Okay... and now here's the part where we sing together. I'm going to need you to really focus - this part has some harmony that you're going to have to pick up on."

"Okay."

"I'm going to play the audio from that part. I need you to hyper-focus on the male part and try it out. Feel free to let me know if you need me to play it again."

He nods in understanding. I hit play on the song. You can hear both the singers - Josh and Katie - singing their parts.

"Well, I've got more to give

But I'm happy to live

In the shadow, of what could've been..."

The song ends and I reset the audio back to where they start together. "Need me to play it again?"
He shakes his head. "Not yet. Let me try it."

I start a chord. "Want me to play along?"

"Only if you'd like to."

I smile. "I'd love to."

I don't sing along with him just yet, but I play the chords as he sings his part.

"You've got this, Lance. You really, really, do."

He smiles at me. "Wanna give it a run through with the instrumental before I play along?"

"Would you be singing along too?"
"Yes, I will."

"Then, let's try it."

I go into my computer files and pull up the instrumental file. The song starts with it's little intro. I nod to Lance, making sure he's ready to go.
