I sit down with a sigh. "Everything okay?" Spencer asks me.
"Yeah," I reply, "Just have a lot on my mind."
"Stuff about Lance?"
I reply almost automatically, like a broken record. "Yeah."
"I'm sure everything will be fine. Lance's a nice guy."
I nod. "He is."
He sits down next me as my mom passes out our plates. She sits down afterward.
"Everything will be fine tomorrow, Serena," she says with a smile, "I just know it."
"That's easy for you to say," I reply, "I mean, I like him and all, but what if it turns out that the world doesn't want us together?"
"Considering how Lance has said he's already seeing color, I doubt that's a possibility at all."
I huff. "But I'm not."
"Everyone sees it at a different pace, Serena."
"Do they, though?"
"It's rare, but yes."
I hum. "Sure, whatever you say..."
The rest of dinner was silent. No one really said a word... And the rest of the evening was slow.
