The weekend passes. Lance and I had been texting each other back and forth during it all, distracting me completely from Arlo (even though we were talking about him) and Spencer and Isla's 'shenanigans'. Isla left to go back home as she should, and now it's time for us all to return to school.
I wonder if Isla would move here or if Spencer would move there?
Nah, that doesn't matter now.
We arrive at our school building on time. I couldn't wait to catch Evynne and the crew up about what happened.
But do I really bring up Arlo?
Yeah, why not. I trust Evynne.
"Evynne!" I call as I see her. "I missed you."
"Hey, Serena!" She looks over to me at the sound of my voice. "How was your weekend? Find your soulmate yet?"I pause. "About that..."
"Oh, no. What happened?" she asks, worried.
"I don't really want to tell anyone but you about this... so is it safe with you?"
"My lips are sealed. Seriously, tell me. I'm curious."I sigh a little bit, thinking of how to put this gently.
"I had found my soulmate. I did, I did." I pause again. "But... he..."
Evynne looks at me. "He ended up dying." I finish, trying to keep myself together. "He got caught in a house fire he was helping with. The smoke took over and suffocated him."
"I'm so sorry, Serena."
"It's okay... It was so short of a time, though... I feel like it wasn't worthwhile.""You still have a chance."
"What?""You should know, Serena."
"Oh! Wait... You mean... that because it was so soon, so sudden, that if another person comes around, the world could accept them as my new soulmate?"
"Exactly.""I had totally forgotten about that."
"Any suspects for that yet?"
"Mmm... Well, maybe. But it's kind of weird."
"Why's it weird?""If I tell you, you wouldn't be impressed at all." I say, trying to keep him a secret, too.
She rolls her eyes at me. "'Kay, whatever you say."We start to wander to our first class. "Did you find your soulmate yet, Evynne?"
"No, not yet."
"Well, I hope you will soon." I smile softly. She only nodded in response as we walked into the classroom, which was different from the previous days.
