We filed to the car shortly after. Spencer and Isla were in the second row of the car, Mom in the driver's seat, and I was in the passenger seat. The car starts, and we exit the parking lot of the airport. "Are your parents staying near the airport or in another city?" Mom asks.
"They're in the next town over, I believe. Don't worry about dropping me off with them in the evenings... unless you guys don't have a guest room."
"We do, so you're in luck." I turn to look back at her. "You'll have a lot of fun with us."
"I'm very excited to see what this town has in store.""There's not a whole lot in our neighborhood," Spencer says, "but downtown is really nice."
I nod. "It is. That's where I bumped into Arlo."
"Cute!" Isla exclaims."But... it wasn't the nicest area of downtown. It was the run-down part where many don't really live. I got lost because I was wandering around."
"Oh. At least he got you back in the right direction."
"Definitely. I would've probably died myself if it wasn't for him." I laugh. "Maybe I'll try to convince him to come over.""Only one soulmate at once, Serena." Mom scolds.
"Why?"
"I can't have both my younger kids going off doing things..." She sighs."My gosh, Mom, that wouldn't happen!" I shout.
"So you say." She teases.
I growl. "Fine." I look at my phone, seeing if Arlo ever responded to my text. I never got a response from him, and it's been over an hour.
'He's probably just busy...' I think. I hope that's just the case. I'm still color-sighted, so that's a good sign.
We arrive downtown. Memories of Arlo and I meeting up come flowing back. I really hope he's okay.
"Serena, you're awfully quiet all of a sudden," Spencer says, jolting me out of my daydream, "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine," I lie. "Just thinking." In reality, I'm really just worried.
"About?"
"...Nothing."
"C'mon, Rina, something's wrong."
"No, nothing's wrong."
Spencer looks at Isla. "Isla, could you try and talk to her?"
"Let her have a moment, Spencer." She responds. "Maybe the outside air will help her clear her mind."
"Okay, fine, I agree. We'll make sure we stop and show you around, too."
"That sounds like a plan to me. With you, too, Serena?"I nod. "Yes it does."
