I awakened the following morning with a start, not knowing I had actually fallen asleep that night as my alarm chimes. I groan, hitting snooze and falling back asleep.

I shouldn't have stayed up so late.

Ten minutes later, the alarm goes off again. This time I force myself to get up and get myself ready for my day.

Now you're probably wondering why exactly I use an alarm if it's a school break?

I like having structure in my life. If I didn't have it I might go crazy. Thankfully for me, it's not set as early.

I do a quick check in with my friends before I head to grab something to eat and then almost immediately head back upstairs. I called Lance for a little while, giving him a preview of the song we're going to be working on. From just the sound of his voice I could tell he was excited.

'I can't wait to learn the rest of this song with you!'

I smile. "Me neither."

After we hung up I put a little bit of time aside to practice something new. A song that's very special to Lance.

Something different, just to take my mind off of my current goal.

I tune to the different song, and quickly make sure I have my chords right. And, whaddaya know -- I do.

A quick run through or three of the song later, I'm ready to sing along with it.

"They called me up, and called you out,

"Where was she sleeping when she should've been at your house?"

But they don't have the letter you left me on my pillow

They don't know where we go,

When we turn off our phones,

And those nights we went out and we never came home,

They were clueless so, they make up their own little stories

With little glory

Even if they try to break us down,

They won't even find the faintest frown.

Together forever, together forever,

Together forever, baby, just you and me.

Even when it's us against the world,

I'll be singing "you're my only girl."

Together forever, together forever,

Together forever, baby, just you and me.

They called you up, and called me out

"You could do better with the boy that's on your bus route,"

But they don't see the way that she smiles when she's with me

How she feels like I do when I stare at the moon

And I'd hope where she was, that she noticed it too

When my phone lights up, and my dimples are digging deeper,

I swear I need her.

Even if they try to break us down,

They won't even find the faintest frown.

Together forever, together forever,

Together forever, baby, just you and me.

Even when it's us against the world,

I'll be singing "you're my only girl."

Together forever, together forever,

Together forever, baby, just you and me.

When rumors run around,

The truth is what I found, to keep you coming back to me,

To me

Even if they try to break us down,

They won't even find the faintest frown.

Together forever, together forever,

Together forever baby just you and me.

Even when it's us against the world,

I'll be singing "you're my only girl."

Together forever, together forever,

Together forever, baby, just you and me."

And just like always, I end the song with a sigh. This time, a happy sigh. That's possible, right?

I smile, knowing this is one of my new favorite songs now. I knew it before, but knowing now that this is actually one of Lance's favorites (he showed it to me the last time we saw each other), I can't help but to like it even more. I'm going to call him later... again... (or maybe I'll just wait to see him!) to play it for him. He's going to love it.

Or maybe I'll just surprise him with it when I see him tomorrow. It's so, so, so close now.

I'm totally not nervous about how our performance is gonna go.

Totally not.

I take a breath and play the song again, smiling the whole time, especially with more emphasis on the line "I swear I need her."

I can't help but to play it a third time and sing along with gender-bent lyrics. I love it.

After that, I decide it's time to work on My Favorite Regret, the song I want to teach Lance, again. I'm so close to making sure this is right. The chords are tough and I don't want to mess it up. I try a new strumming pattern on the intro and it really helps me get through it. I cheer to myself, excited to have gotten the really tough intro done. I may have been playing this instrument most of my life, but it's still hard sometimes. It gets rather overwhelming.
