"𝐨𝐧 𝐦𝐲 𝐬𝐢𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐈 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚 𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐥𝐞 𝐥𝐨𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐫"
Kacie abruptly woke up, shocked. Not only was Cody's head not in her lap, but it was also 8 AM. How was he not disgustingly hungover?
Looking around, Kacie noticed the broken china no longer covered the ground.
The faint sound of the TV was heard from the den in the next room. She slowly got up, shuffling down the hall and peeking her head in to see what he was watching.
"Former Dodger's player honored with new mural on day of passing, three years later."
His head was fixed on the TV, so focused he didn't even notice Kacie sit down next to him.
An image of Kyle Seager appeared on the screen. He had been seen setting down a pair of blue flowers, his family behind him.
The camera soon panned to Mady, who was wearing dark sunglasses and all black. Her hand was wrapped tightly around the silver chain that held Corey's wedding ring.
Kacie knew Cody had been asked to be interviewed, but opted to not respond due to the pain of even thinking about him.
She slowly reached for his hand, laying her palm over his. Cody gently embraced it, as his green eyes traveled to hers.
"You wanna get something to eat?" He softly asked.
"I'd love to. But do you?" Kacie asked in reply, knowing if she was him she wouldn't wanna leave the house for a couple days.
"Yes." Cody whispered, "Corey wouldn't like it if I sat around all day."
Kacie nodded, "I'm ready when you are." She smiled, squeezing his hand, "But I want you to know that Corey would understand taking time for yourself."
"Well I'm not the one who died. I don't need to think about myself." He replied. It was still his soft sad tone, but with a prick of anger.
"Okay," She swallowed, getting up so she could go get ready.
"Can we leave now?" He asked.
"Sure." Kacie replied, knowing damn well she looked like shit. But this wasn't about her.
Cody got up and laid an arm around her, as they left the den together and went outside to the driveway. It was raining. The car was drizzled with raindrops that slid down the side as more moved in.
A sober Cody climbed into the driver's seat as Kacie climbed into the passenger's.
The drive was quiet, minus the call from Cody's dad, Clay, which Cody insisted on not picking up.
They soon pulled up to their favorite morning spot, Urth Caffé.
Kacie put her hood over her head as she got out of the car, as a chilly breeze hit her face. She dug through her pocket, pulling out a couple of quarters to fill the meter as a dark shadow formed over her head.
She looked up, a towering Cody stood dry with a black umbrella and a weak smile.
Kacie smiled back, wrapping an arm around him, setting it as high as it could comfortably go.
"I love you," she whispered.
