The next few days went by smoothly. Kacie's father had warmly taken in Christian, and seemed to like him.
He even told Kacie he'd think her mother would like him, which was special considering her departure from life many years ago.
Although the days were nice, Kacie couldn't help but think about Cody. Not because she was sad, or angry. She felt closure. Like a weight was off her shoulder.
And it felt great.

Once Kacie got back to London it felt like weeks were merely days and hours were just minutes. Maybe it was the stress of the little brown card that sat on her dresser, urging her to RSVP and immediately book her flight right after. Although the thought of the baby shower not being for her and Cody... and for Cody and someone else, was maybe what really messed her up.
After her and Christian returned to London she'd filled him in on everything that happened with Cody, and asked him for advice on if she should go or not.
Christian immediately told her to not respond, and that he only invited her to be petty.
But Kacie knew that wasn't the motive. On the surface, yeah... but after reuniting in LA she'd realized he probably just wanted to let her know he was alright. At least, that's what she got from it.
Kacie adjusted her earrings as her eyes once again fell to the card. Today was the last day to RSVP, and she had to make a decision.
Going back to America would be a rather nice getaway... she'd get to see her parents, sister, brother, friends... it's all she could ask for, right?
Glancing down at the time, she mentally scolded herself as her hands crept towards the tan envelope and unattached it from the little brown card with bubblegum pink accents. Her manicured nails pressed down on the card stock as she typed the phone number into her phone, afterward turning all her attention to the lit keyboard as she took a deep breath and imagined what to say.

Hi this is Kacie Moore I'm texting to RSVP to the baby shower
As Kacie hit send she grimaced at the lack of effort and emotion put into the text, and how petty she probably sounded, as she was Cody's ex.
But... it was how she texted. Besides, who cares anyways?
She slid her phone back into her blazer pocket and grabbed her bag, making a mental note to book her flight later.
And now, she was off to meet Christian.

Cody had just finished putting together his daughter's crib when he got the notification.
It was from Madisyn. They'd put the Kacie situation aside months ago, and Cody had went back to checking in on her like usual. But, he'd had never received anything like this, where the tone had felt so... panicky.
It merely said to call her, but he knew something was wrong.
He immediately dropped the mattress into the crib, then walked out of the room and into the kitchen, walking towards one of his spare bedrooms so he could talk on the balcony.
Mady's phone connected on the other line as he closed the door and started, "Hey, what's u—"
He heard things falling on the other line, and not to mention the painful sobs.
"Mady?" he said again.
"Cody you're not gonna believe this," she cried.
"What? What's wrong? Are you alright?" he asked, shaken up at the tone in her voice. It sounded hoarse and strained. It was not bubbly and friendly like usual.
"The footage— there's footage."
"Of what?" Cody pushed, he was scared and confused, as the downtown breeze picked up and sailed through his curls.
"Corey's death."
