"She's a dreamer and he is her dream."
The bell rang right on time for recess as Cody finished handing out the autographed baseballs to the children.
He watched as the children filed out of the room, and his Godson, Blake, gave him one last big hug before thanking him and telling him how awesome he was.
Before he knew it, Cody was left the only the girl, and some butterflies that fluttered about in his stomach.
It was almost as if she hadn't realized he was still there. She was so focused on her paper that she didn't see Cody until he approached her desk, and got onto his knees, laying his elbows on her desk and face on top of his resting hands.
"Hey," she giggled, "You're shorter than I remembered."
Cody laughed as he watched her set her pencil down, letting her eyes meet his.
"No. Not short," Cody countered, as the girl raised and eyebrow, "Just had to come down to your level to finally get your attention."
"And why would you need that?" Her eyes narrowed, still happy and bright.
"So I can give you this," Cody looked at her, raising his head out of his hands that he removed from the desk, setting down an autographed baseball in front of her.
She giggled at his quick remark as she examined the baseball in awe.
"Thank you for making these angel's days," she smiled, referring to the children as she tossed the ball up and down in her right hand, "And mine."
"Aw, of course...?" He continued, pushing for her name.
"Kacie."
"It was the least I could do, Kacie."
"Well do us all another favor and win tonight." She winked.
"Easy."
Kacie playfully rolled her eyes at his confidence and charm, "Well you better get going Mr. Bell—"
"Cody."
"Well you better get going, Cody, if you're gonna make it to the field on time for warmups." She chuckled, glancing at the clock that read 12:57, with the first pitch being thrown at 4:15.
Cody looked at the clock, playfully frowning as he got up from his kneeling position, as his 6'4 frame towered over her little 5'5 one from where she sat.
Kacie waved goodbye with a gleeful smile as he left, but all Cody could think about was if he made the right impression, and where his Godson Blake was at so he could get the scoop on her.
Meanwhile, Kacie examined the ball closer, rubbing her finger across the fresh white baseball that had Cody's signature in pink. But as she spun the ball on its other side, there sat a little message in bold cursive.
'Call me—
310-***-****'Kacie shook her head, charmed by his eyes and his soft gaze. Not to mention the way he smiled.
That smile.
Seeing that smile on TV never got old. But in person? In person is was even more stunning — if that was even possible.
Kacie swore to herself she would never fall in love again. But as soon as he smiled? Damn. She blew it.
