a/n — idk a lot about court, lol. i did research it but i also don't want to get it wrong either so just to make this easier I'm going to skip most of this stuff.
i would also like to guilt-fully add that i completely forgot about micheal while writing the rest of this book.

"This morning, Madysin Vanham-Seager walked into the courtroom today with Cody Bellinger, her lawyer, Leighton Moore, her mother and father, along with her late husband Corey Seager's parents and brother, Kyle Seager. Along with the alleged witness, who would prefer no to be named.
It has been speculated for months that the Seagers would take this to court, and after everything it's the day. We'll be back soon with more."

Kacie exhaled as she turned off the livestream on her phone and straightened out her white blazer. She told Mady she'd come and sit behind her in the courtroom for moral support, it was all she'd been in LA for after all.

Getting out of the Uber, she thanked the driver and was immediately bombarded with reporters, camera clicks, flashes, microphones, and questions.

"Who are you?"

"Will Corey Seager be given justice?"

"What hand do you have in Corey's case?"

"Are you and Cody getting back together?

"Is Leighton Moore your brother?"

Dating Cody Bellinger for 5 years, and not to mention while in his prime, kacie was rather used to paparazzi at bigger events. But this? This was on a whole other level of paparazzi. This case was probably the biggest thing happening since Johnny Depp & Amber Heard, obviously... different circumstances, but everyone was watching.

Once the girl got through all the reporters and security, she was given directions to where the Seager's trial would be taking place.

She stopped at the door and took a deep breath in, wiping off her white pantsuit before showing the security guard her pass and stepping inside.

Mady was sat up front with Leighton. Right behind her in the gallery, was one empty seat next to Kyle Seager and his family, which she assumed was for herself.

Kacie took her place behind Mady, giving the Seager's a subtle hello as she sat down. She realized as she sat down, that Cody was right behind her as well.

As the judge was going over the charges and constitutional rights, Cody leaned forward and whispered in Kacie's ear, "You getting married after this?"

The girl turned around and rolled her eyes without a response. She didn't want to give him the attention he desperately wanted.

The defendant had pleaded not-guilty, which made the case hell of a lot more complicated... but luckily, this is what they'd prepared for for months. After the judge went over a couple things with Leighton and Mady, the lawyers, judge, and witness — Micheal — got started.

"In the Circuit Court in Los Angeles, California, California state versus Trent Robert Haller case number *********. Verdict as to the charge in count one... we the jury find the defendant Trent Haller guilty of second-degree murder — murder with a BMW x7 as charged in the indictment."

The clerk then turned to each member of the jury and asked them each the simple question of, "is this your verdict?" to which they each replied with a, "Yes".
