Corey's hands tapped against the glass as the sales associate slid the ring towards him, he felt his eyes lighten & gleam as he saw it sitting there, perfectly, right in front of him.

This ring was for Mady.

It was perfect for Mady.

It was like the ring was made for Mady.

Not to mention, it was the only one of that exact ring left, and it was her size, no extra adjustments needed.

Corey didn't think he'd ever gotten this lucky in his life.

He smiled and looked up at the man that'd taken the ring out of the case for him to further examine it, and gave him the nod.

"I'll take it," Corey declared.

Corey fiddled with the ring box in his sweatshirt pocket, as he waited at the crosswalk.

The street wasn't busy, only a few cars coming here and there.

As the light in front of him ticked green, and the walk symbol on the sign lit white, signaling for his time to cross, he didn't think twice as he stepped out into the street.

Not even halfway through the crosswalk, a pair of headlights came into view, speeding down the road at a rapid pace.

A stern expression crossed Corey's face as he continued walking, but as he came closer into the approaching cars path, he sped up

This wasn't the first time he was dealing with assholes in LA, and he didn't really want any problems either.

It wasn't until the headlights were inches from Corey's eyes that he stopped dead in his tracks, as the motor startled him backwards, the ring box flying out of his pocket and underneath the car.

Corey abruptly put his hands in the air and gestured at the driver, mouthing "slow down!"

He shielded his eyes as he bent down to search for Mady's ring, heart still pounding at the fact his life just flashed before his eyes.

As his arm reached towards the box, the man behind the wheel slammed onto his steering wheel, a loud— and long— "honk!" leaving the car, making Corey jump once again.

Corey became annoyed with the man, and yelled "Back up!" before making a gesture with his arms for him to go backwards.

Finally the man rolled down his window and started throwing angry gestures at him with his hands and inaudible slurs that Corey couldn't quite make out, but he was almost glad he couldn't.

Corey shook his head as he made the decision to walk around the car and tell the man he needed to back up, "Bro, I dropped something can you please—" Corey started as he leaned down and peered his head into the window, but not even two seconds later a large fist was in his face and he was once again, back down on the ground.

"What the heck!" Corey shouted at the driver, who he now assumed was drunk.

Corey knew his next move was to probably just get up, move out of the way so this guy could leave him alone, get Mady's ring, call the police, then go home.

Holding his jaw as his back left the pavement, he stood up and began to wince as he tried to move it.

Drunk people hit pretty hard, huh?

But the next thing that Corey never expected, was for the light to go green.

And as he slowly limped out of the way of the car, its engine riled up and cold metal bulleted into him.
