Kacie stepped nervously up the stairs. The thought of Cody possibly being up in that room plagued her. She hadn't told Christian about him yet. She'd barely even thought of Cody until she got that letter.
Christian had noticed, and before they'd reached the top of the stairway he'd turned her to face him and asked, "Are you alright?"
"Yeah. Butterflies," she nervously smiled.
"I'm sure everyone's gonna be happy to see you, don't be nervous." he smiled, his hand grazing her jaw, afterward intertwining with hers, leading her up the stairs.
Together they passed through the archway towards the large pairs of French double doors, then onto the balcony.
As soon as she stepped foot onto the white outdoor tile, everyone turned to look at her.
"Surprise," she barely spat out, a huge grin overcoming her words.
"Kacie!?" Many exclaimed out of excitement in return, getting up from their seats to embrace her in hugs, leaving Christian to watch everyone happily embrace her.
All but one.
A man still sitting awkwardly at the table eyed Kacie, then looked at Christian.
Out of friendliness, he held out a hand to the man and sort of waved. The man nodded in return, then looked back at Kacie.
