Chapter 27: The truth

~Mirabel P.O.V~

I watch as Camilo cries into the arms of his family and I feel myself tear up as I look down to where Y/n had fallen

I look around to see if anyone if watching me and I stand up before walking out the back exit of Casita. As I walk I just Camilo's scream ply over and over in my head and my vision get blurry

I continue to walk through the forest as I hear the birds chirp and animals growl but I ignore them all until I make it to the mountain. I walk through the big crack and carefully make my way down the side of it when I softly hear the sound of rushing water

I hear my parents calling out to me but I continue to walk in the dark and past the mountain and towards the water. As I get closer I see a river and a little edge near it. I walk towards the edge and sit down, pulling my knees to my chest and begin to slowly let myself sob

I continue to cry for who knows how long as I just hear the flow of the water, I hear something walking across the mud but ignore it just assuming it's another animal. I look up and out at the water as I remember Y/n

"I'm so sorry Y/n.....I'm sorry I brought you into my mess. I'm sorry I made your vision come true I just thought.....maybe we could change it....and now......you're gone" I say as I begin to cry more and I bury my face in my knees

I see a bit of light begin to glow and I assume it's morning but I don't move from my position as I cry. Finally I hear someone

"Mirabel...." I hear Abuela say and I try to stop crying but that doesn't work

"I'm sorry...I didn't wanna hurt us....I just wanted to be something I'm not...." I say to Abuela as I begin to softly cry again. She's silent for a view seconds before talking again

"I've never been able to come back here....this river is where we were given our miracle" Abuela says as I look up to see her looking at the small waterfall

"Where Abuelo Pedro....?" I ask as I wipe my eyes and fix my glasses

"I thought we would have a different life...I thought I would be a different woman" Abuela says as she begins to explain how her and Abuelo Pedro met

We met at the twin that used to be a few miles from here, at a ceremony. He had climb onto of of the light posts as had I and that's when we first saw each other. I had quickly embarrassed myself in front of him but he seemed to enjoy it. We had decided to ditch the ceremony and just go and get to know each other better" Abuela says as she stares out at the river and I continue to listen

"We had laughed and talked and a year later we got married...happiest day of my life. Then a few months passed and we figured out I was pregnant with you mama, your Tía and your Tío, your Abuelo had actually pretended to faint when I told him" Abuela says as she softly laughs and I laugh with her

"But then a few days after I gave birth to those three, men had raided our town and were killing innocent people for their money and so we decided it was best to grab the whole town and leave....and that's exactly what we did." Abuela says as I look out at the river then at the sky

"We had walked for who knows how long before we had arrived at this very river. But as we were crossing...the men on horse back who had destroyed our town had found us and we're coming at us. Your Abuelo got me and my kids across the river safely before stopping and turning back towards the men. He kissed your mom, your Tía and your Tío all on the head before kissing me and handing me the candle and....I knew that was his goodbye" Abuela says as she starts to tear up and I look back at her

"He then walked into the water and tried to reason with the men but....it was no use....the middle one grabbed his machete and killed your Abuelo Pedro..." Abuela says before pausing as she cries and I look at her

"I just remember falling to my knees and crying...as Camilo did when Y/n had fallen and he screamed but then....the candle it grew bright and that's when the markings were engraved into it and the men were flown backwards and the mountains were built.....that was the last time I had ever seen this river" Abuela says as she wipes her tears and stares at the river

"That was when I knew I had to protect not only my children but the whole town, so when Casita had been built I mostly sat up in my room....deciding how I would go about this and I knew that...I was gonna use the miracle to help this town thrive" Abuela says before looking down sadly

"I was given a miracle, a second chance, and I was so afraid to lose it....that I lost sight of who our miracle was for. And....I am so sorry. You never hurt our family Mirabel....we are broken...because of me..." Abuela says and I look at her

"And y/n....I blamed them for what they're Other Abuelo had done...." Abuela says and I look at her confused

"You see....I had figured out shortly after the death of Pedro that Y/n's Abuelo's Brother wa some of the men on horseback...." Abuela says and my eyes widen

"Y/n's Abuelo had no idea and yet I blame the whole family for what the exiled one had done...I blamed Y/n for something that happened way before they were born....." Abuela says before looking at me

"But seeing Y/n in that house, risk their life to protect you....I knew they were nothing like they're Abeulo's brother....while that man had wanted to harm our family, Y/n wants to protect it.....I see that now..." Abuela says before I look off behind her and see something behind pulled out of the water

"Abuela..." I say and she looks at me as I point to what is we and her eyes widen

"Is that....Y/n?!" Abuela says and my eyes widen

"They're alive?!" I yell as I quickly stand up and run over, Abuela following behind me

As I hear them I see that a Puma is curled up beside, licking their wounds as a rat lays on the chest softly squeaking. The rat looks over and squeaks loudly before the Puma gets up and stands over Y/n in a protective stance as it's eyes go into slits

"Please we don't wanna hurt them...we're here to help them..." I say as I put my hands up but the Puma stays over Y/n

The rat squeaks and the Puma looks down at it, the rat squeaks more and the Puma looks back at us and I smile awkwardly before the Puma slowly steps back and sits, watching me and Abuela's every move

"You're one of Bruno's rats aren't you?" I ask the rat and it happily squeaks as I pet its head

I sit down beside Y/n and examine their wounds before gasping and covering my mouth, causing the Puma to stand up and growl at me but the rat angrily squeaks at the Puma and it sits back down

"We need to get my mom now!" I say as I look back at Abuela before I hear Y/n cough

"What the....w-where am I...?" Y/n asks and I smile

"You're almost home Y/n.....you're almost home" I say

I hope that little twist with Y/n's Abuelo keeps you wondering what other tricks I got up my sleeve cause OH BABY DO I GOT MORE! The story ain't over yet folks so I hope you stayed hooked on this book

And ik ik I said I would take a break but I just had a lot of ideas today and everything was just flowing so I continued writing, I may continue to write until I go to bed but this will be the last chapter I post for today

Let me say that again; THIS WILL BE THE LAST CHAPTER THAT I POST FOR TODAY!!
