"All right! I'm going to do this thing!" Shintaro pumped himself up before entering class.
Sumio watched his friend completely embarrassing himself. Other students around them started whispering, questioning what those two were up to.
He sighed, "In you go!" he pushed Shintaro into the classroom. "Yo!" he waved at Yōu, Riko, and Chika.
"Morning!" they said back.
"G-good morning!" Shintaro managed. Sumio face palmed, his friend was such an idiot.
"Are you alright?" Yōu asked Shintaro. "You're face is totally red."
"I-I-I'm fine!"
"You should really go see the nurse. You're burning up." she pressed her hand on his forehead, feeling for a fever.
"You're just gonna make it worse- never mind." Sumio sighed watching the scene unfold before him. "So how are your guys' morning?" he asked Riko and Chika.
"O-On s-second thought... I'll go see the nurse! Y-yeah!" Shintaro then sprinted out of the room.
"Oi! Class is starting!" the basketball star chased after his friend.
Yōu stood there confused, "What just happened?" she turned to the others. "R-r-riko-chan?!"
Riko laid there on the desk passed out. Only muttering the words, "He knows my name..."
Chika was also passed out, but she was just tired.
Both out of breath, Sumio and Shintaro sat on top of the school roof.
"S-she..." the baseball captain sat there in a happy daze.
"Why are you like this?" Sumio smacked him upside the head. "You had one job! And you blew it! I'm doing my job by supporting you and setting you up... but you keep failing!"
"Well... it's hard! Put yourself in my shoes!" he explained. "And at least I'm trying! You should go find someone! Like Riko!"
"This isn't about me! And if I was in your shoes I wouldn't be that nervous!" Sumio's voice softened. "Listen, all you have to do is get comfortable around her. She's really chill and nice. Maybe invite her to the batting cages? You said she used to play."
"You're right... Yeah I'll do that!" Shintaro said confidently.
And that satisfied Sumio.
Until it didn't...
"Hey... Yōu, do you want to go to the batting cages after practice with Sumio and I?" Shintaro asked.
"And I?!" he shot him a look.
Shintaro used hand signs that said just go along with it.
"Sure!"
After school, the sound of a metal bat connecting with a ball rang all around the room. Every cage was crushing balls left and right.
Except from Sumio's... he had no clue how he was supposed to hit a ball going that fast with a small bat!
Eventually giving up, he watched as Shintaro and Yōu hit every single ball thrown from the machine.
"If softball was your third best sport and basketball is second... just how good are you at swimming?" Sumio asked.
"Incredibly good." she said before hitting the sign that said "home run".
"Nice hit!" Shintaro grinned.
The basketball kid was glad his two friends were getting along. They definitely had chemistry and from his point of view, they were a great couple.
