Chapter 29

"Now, remember this formula is only used when these two equations are the same. Hey! Are you even paying attention?"

Sumio Kobayashi watched as a hand waved in his face. Yōu Watanabe's hand to be exact.

The two students of Seishin High School were in the library studying. Well at least trying… one wasn't exactly cooperating.

"Do you want to pass this entrance exam? What school are you even going for?" Yōu sent a barrage of questions at him.

"You know the two of us in here alone makes us sort of like a couple." Sumio answered causing her blood to boil.

"Fine! If you don't want to study then don't study at all." She began to stand up.

"Didn't Tsuki say she had some dirt on you or something?" He smirked causing her to sigh in defeat.

His comment about them being a couple did give her an idea however.

"Then how about this…" she smiled sweetly. "How about every time you get a question right I'll reward you with something?"

That was enough for Sumio's heart to skip a beat. Or maybe several beats. Either way it got his attention.

"Deal."

He began to solve the math problems on the worksheet at a fast rate.

When it was time to check his work, he got four out of the five problems correct.

"So what's my reward?" He grinned. "Or maybe this is a reward for you? Getting to do something for the basketball team's captain? Maybe kiss him?"

"A-actually I-I'm a little e-embarassed." She blushed causing Sumio to gulp.

"U-um you actually don't have to do anything I was just playing with you." He said unsteadily his heart still pounding.

"N-no, I said I would give you a reward so… h-here you go." Her voice dropped to a whisper. "B-but you have to close your eyes." She said as her face began to move towards his.

Now Sumio was really freaking out. Was this a dream? Had he ascended up into the heavens?

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

"All done." She said.

"Eh?" Sumio began to panic, he was so into the moment that he hadn't felt anything!

"You can open your eyes now."

He opened his eyes only to see Yōu's phone pointed at his face as she took a picture.

As she showed him the photo, there was writing on his head.

It spelled out idiot.

"HEY! I THOUGHT I WAS GETTING A REWARD!"

"I didn't say it was a good reward idiot." She grinned, "that concludes our study session for today!"

"We're done already?"

"We spent an hour working on math, you know you're not actually as dumb as you think." She stretched.

"Well do you think it'll be good enough to get a passing score for Tokyo University?" He asked.

"Is that where you want to go?" Her eyes sparked with curiosity.

"No, I just want to see so I can compare with other colleges."

It wasn't a total lie, he needed a score that would get him into Tokyo University in order to receive the scholarship.

"I think so." Yōu finally responded. "I've been thinking applying to Tokyo University myself. Chika and Riko want to."

"Chika can make it to Tokyo University?"

"Her grades may seem bad but she's actually pretty smart when she tries." The blue-eyed girl shrugged. "Just like you."

They sat in silence for a little bit. The only noise in the room was the clock ticking.

"So what do you want to do in the future?" Sumio found himself asking.

"I'm not sure." She said, "But whatever it is I want it to be something I enjoy."

He nodded. "I hope to do the same."

"Hey, do you work tonight?" Yōu said as they packed their bags.

"Yeah, just for a bit until closing."

"Make sure you study at home then." She reminded before leaving.

That night at work Sumio was working the register when someone walked through the door.

"Yo." Riko smiled as she entered the store.

"I'm sorry but we are closed." Sumio said.

"The sign says open from ten to ten." She replied, "and the clock says it is currently nine fifty-five."

"Customers who show up last minute are the worst." He said grumpily. "What brings you in here today?"

"I need snacks to study."

"You'll get fat if you eat too many."

"Shut up! It's for a good cause." She pouted while he grinned.

"Will that be all?" He said scanning her items. "Twenty-five bags of chips and a two liter bottle of soda?"

"TWO BAGS I ONLY AM BUYING TWO BAGS AND A REGULAR SIZED DRINK!" She clarified.

"Right right."

After Riko left, Yōu's dad popped his head in from the break room.

"Was that just Riko?" He asked.

"Yup."

"She's a real cutie isn't she?"

"I guess."

"But not cuter than my daughter right?"

"Yeah."

"YOU THINK MY DAUGHTER IS CUTE?!" He said getting ready to kill.

"I mean no!" Sumio shook his head viciously.

"YOU DON'T THINK MY DAUGHTER IS CUTE?"

Sumio sweat dropped, "Is there a right answer in this situation?"

He laughed, "Relax kid, I'm just teasing you."

"You seriously had me considering my life there boss."

"Please, call me pops." He said quietely, "I want to ask you something."

Suddenly Sumio began to sweat. "I'm all ears, pops." He added the last part hesitantly.

"So do you want to tell me why you and my daughter are hiding the fact that you are friends from school?"

He gulped. Okay now seriously what was the correct thing to say in this situation?

Uhhhhh okay I have a lot of the chapters written. I just haven't published it yet...
