Sumio Kobayashi ran towards his friends house. He couldn't wait to share the good news he had just found out.

And even better.

He was going to ask her out again.

Okay maybe that's a little too hasty. But he couldn't think of another time to do so.

After all, they only had a little over a week left.

Wait no that's not right, if Yōu accepted to go to Singapore, then they'd still have all that time together.

But Sumio didn't want to wait until then, what if some Singapore kid steals hee from him?!

No no no…

It has to be today.

Is what he thought when he knocked on the door of the Watanabe residence.

"Oh Sumio-kun!" Mrs. Watanabe smiled, "What brings you here? Honey Sumio is here!"

"Sumio!" The sailor drunkenly stumbled to the door. "It's nice to see you here, my future son-in-law."

Sumio sweat dropped as he glanced at the absolutely wasted man in front of him. "Um, I heard that Yōu wasn't feeling well so I wanted to check up on her."

"Hmm?" Her father scratched his head. "Oh yeah! She was faking being sick because she didn't want to talk to you or something. Something about being embarassed."

"So where is she?"

"She went to go see you at the festival." Her mom smiled while Sumio sighed.

"How did we not see each other…" he grumbled.

"Isn't this what happened with us honey?" The head of the Watanabe house asked his wife.

"Um, most definitely not, we don't have as dramatic of a story." She said.

"Really? These two have an interesting love story don't they." He replied with a bit of slowness in speech.

"You might be a little too drunk there honey, you're hallucinating now."

"Oh yeah speaking of which, you want a beer Sumio?" He offered a bottle.

"Um… I might lose my scholarship from underage drinking." He laughed.

"Speaking of which, is that your letter of acceptance in your hand?" He pointed.

"Hm? Oh no, this isn't mine. This is honestly why I came over here." Sumio handed them the letter. "Yōu has been offered to swim for the same university as me."

"Really?"

"Yeah the representative asked me to give this to her."

"That's great son!" Her father boomed. "Now you guys can go to Singapore and get married!"

Sumio sweat dropped watching the heavily influenced man say things he probably wouldn't say level headed.

"Honey, they aren't even dating yet." His wife said, dragging him away. "It just seems like you two can never be in the same place."

"That's not typically a good sign." Sumio sighed before excusing himself and running back towards the festival.

"Good luck! We're rooting for you two!" Mrs. Watanabe waved.

And so Sumio ran.

And ran.

And ran.

And ran some more.

Did I mention that he ran?

Until he stopped and came face to face.

With Yōu Watanabe.

Then it seemed like time had stopped. Nothing seemed to move.

There was so much they wanted to say. Yet no words came out.

Then Sumio took out the letter.

"This is for you. The university that I'm going to. They want you to swim for them." He handed it to her.

She stared at it in a daze. Was he joking?

"I-I know that things between us have been weird these past few days. But I think we both know our feelings for each other right?"

Yōu couldn't help but nod.

"So what do you say?"

The sunset glistened in the distance. Yōu Watanabe could hardly believe what she was hearing. Was this really Sumio Kobayashi speaking right now?

Yōu finally moved forward. She stepped towards Sumio, until she stopped right in front of him.

She took a deep breath.

And pushed him as hard as she could.

Surprised, Sumio stumbled backwards trying to keep his balance until he fell over landing on his butt.

"What was that for?!" He yelled upset.

"I wanted to know if you were real right now!" She yelled back at him.

"What does that mean?! Of course I'm real!"

"Well now I know that!"

He stood up, "You really are a strange girl."

"I'm not that strange." She said softly.

"Well… can you be my strange girl?"

Yōu looked at him.

And bursted out laughing. "What kind of line is that? I can't even understand what that means! You sound so cringy right now!"

"Shut up!" Sumio said turning red from embarrassment. "It's not my fault you're weird!"

They continued their shouting match.

People who walked by assumed they were going through a break up.

"You're the one who's asking me out!" Yōu countered.

"And you're the one that kissed me!" Sumio pointed out.

"T-then I'll do it again!"

"Then do it!"

Yōu's face grew closer and closer to Sumio.

The both of them braced for impact. But nothing could prepare Sumio for the feeling he felt when she made contact with him.

And by contact I mean she punched him in the stomach.

"I can't!" She wailed as she started to run away.

Sumio on the other hand was recovering from the blow. But soon he started chasing her. "Not so fast! You haven't admitted we're going out yet!"

"Stop following me!"

"Not until you say it!"

The newly found couple raced around town as the night went on. They had finally admitted their liking for each other.

Well… sort of?

But then again their relationship has always been weird.

And it was going to become a lot weirder soon enough.
