Chapter 21

"You and Sumio are doing what now?" Yōu sighed as Tsuki was chowing down ramen. It was the day of the tournament, and the cousins were eating lunch. 

"Dad's making us play in a two on two co-ed tournament today. Mainly because we let our guards down and he saw us playing basketball together." she watched her cousin who was quite interested in the ramen instead of her.

"Ah yes... the couple enters the basketball tourney." Tsuki teased causing Yōu to strangle her. "I'm just kidding! Riko-chan likes him right."

"Right. But dad said I don't seem to have any guy friends so this would be a good opportunity." 

"Wait, he doesn't know you two know each other already?" 

"Nope. It's complicated... anyways what should I do?"

"Start dating?" Tsuki joked causing the blue-eyed girl to glare daggers at her.

"You're not very useful you know that?"

"And you're not very smart you know that?" Tsuki shot back. "Just go play as friends."

"But I'm worried about Riko."

"Are you worried you'll fall in love with him?" Tsuki eyed her.

Yes. 

"No." Yōu responded. "I hate him." 

"That's exactly what someone who likes someone would say..." Tsuki whistled to herself. "Who do you walk home after school with?" 

"Sumio."

"Who do you usually hang out with on weekends?"

"Sumio." 

"Who do you love?" 

"Su- SHUT UP!" Yōu stood up. "I'm outta here." 

"Yōu Watanabe is in love~"  Tsuki sang as Yōu stomped out of the restaurant. "Say hi to Sumio for me!" was the last she heard before getting on her bike and heading for the gym.

Even though Christmas was only a few days away, there was barely any snow on the ground. The roads were clear and the the sea wasn't even frozen over.  Yōu hustled over to where Sumio was supposed to be waiting for her, only to realize he wasn't there. 

She sighed, turning around only to see a basketball flying at her face. Quickly, she caught the ball and came face to face with the idiot that threw it. 

"What the hell was that for?!" she yelled.

"It was to make sure you were ready for today." Sumio Kobayashi grinned at her.

"You idiot!" she said shoving the ball into his stomach. As Sumio crumbled to the ground in pain, Yōu continued towards the gym where the tournament was being held.

"Wait up!" he said holding his side. "What the hell was that for?!" he complained.

"It was to make sure you were ready for today." she smirked. 

"I hate you." he sighed.

"Hey, you agreed to do this. If anything this is your fault." she reminded him.

"That was only because your dad wanted us to." 

"You could've said no." 

"Well I wasn't thinking at the time!" he claimed.

"You're never thinking." Yōu shook her head. 

"As long as you don't screw it up, I'll be fine with some free ramen." he said placing an image of the steaming bowl of food in his head.
