We walked downstairs trying our best to remain calm.
I paused at the bottom of the steps, Mirabel continued on but Camilo stopped in front of me. He took hold of my hands,
"Remember, whatever happens I'm here." He whispered and gave my hands a small squeeze.
I nodded and took a deep breath in and out. Then continued walking to the dining room.
I took a seat next to Mirabel and Camilo.
My parents walked in with Ben and Alma, I could tell everyone was nervous with the exception of Antonio. But that was only due to him not knowing the drama between our families.
Mirabel and I shared a quick glance as the newcomers sat down.
My father sat down next to Bruno who had Ben on his other side. My mother sat down next to my father.
"Everyone." Alma grabbed our attention, "I'd like to welcome our guests Mr. and Mrs. L/N and thank them for coming."
After that everyone sort of split off into their own conversations. Dolores whispered to Camilo and I,
"What's going on? Why are they here?"
"Have you met my parents?" I whispered back.
She nodded, but before I could answer her questions she got distracted by Agustín talking to her. I looked over at my parents.
Ben and Bruno were happily chatting with my dad almost as if they had forgotten our current situation. My mom was talking to Isabela and Pepa, both of them seemed nervous talking to her though.
Eventually I got lost in my own conversation with Camilo and Antonio. I felt my muscles loosen as I got more comfortable. Antonio was telling me and Camilo about the recent animal drama.
"So then the gecko-" Antonio trailed off as he got distracted.
"How did Y/N get her gift?" Fèlix innocently asked my mom.
Wrong move.
I shot Mirabel a panicked glance and she got the message.
"We don't know actually." My father quickly shot into the conversation.
"Yes we do." My mother retorted.
"Honey that's your theory, there's no... proof." My father said carefully.
The tension from before was returning and we could all feel it.
"You know it's true just as much as I do, honey." My mother hissed.
My breath started pick up as I witnessed it all unfolding in front of me. I tried to drink my water to calm myself down a bit but as soon as I touched the glass the water froze. Shit. I need to do something. Quick.
"Um it's doesn't really matter, does it?" I tried to save the conversation.
"Be quiet Y/N this isn't your business." My mom snapped at me.
Camilo shot me a worried glance.
"With all due respect, isn't this Y/N's business? I mean, it is her gift isn't it?" Camilo defended me.
Please don't let my mom start yelling at Camilo, please.
"Gift? I forgot that's what you people call it." My mom let out a sarcastic laugh.
"What do you suppose we should call it?" Alma said warily.
My mothers sarcastic smile dropped,
"A curse."
The room grew silent.
I felt Camilo grab my hand under the table.
"Oh yeah, and what makes you think that?" I asked with false sense of bravery.
"You." She fumed.
My breath hitched. I knew it was true, but I really didn't think she'd say it to my face.
I started laughing, tears fell down my face as I did. I brushed my hair out of my face and shot my mother a fake smile.
"I seriously cannot believe you!" I half laughed half cried, "You really don't care about me, do you? My entire life I was the black sheep of the family! But you didn't care did you, it didn't affect you so why should you care? It's not like I'm you're daughter or anything."
"You selfish brat! Do you not know how much I sacrificed for you? So you could live like any normal person!" My mother yelled at me.
"So I could live like any normal person? IS THAT WHAT YOU THINK YOU DID? I didn't need to live like any other person, because I'm not any other person! When I came home from school for a straight week covered in bruises because the other kids didn't think I deserved to be treated like I was normal. What did you do? Oh I know! You brushed it off and told me to suck it up!" Tears were now rushing down my face.
"I did that so you'd be stronger!"
"I was eight, I was a child! I didn't need to be stronger, I needed to be safe! But no, you're pride is more important isn't it? You couldn't have a weak daughter." I cried.
"I needed you to be stronger so when you're older I won't have to protect you anymore!"
"Protect me?" I let out a harsh laugh, "You didn't protect me. You controlled me. And the second I stepped out of your perfect mold, you stopped seeing me as your daughter. I'm sorry you had to deal with me for 15 years." I let go of Camilo's hand and left the room.
"Y/N!" I heard both Mirabel and Camilo call out to me, but I sprinted out of the house.
Camilo's POV
I watched as Y/N left the room, I called out to her but she didn't stop.
"F/N we're leaving." Y/N's mother ordered her husband.
"To Ben's house?" F/N asked.
"No we're going home." M/N said before walking out.
After they left I quickly got up and ran out of the house to find Y/N with Mirabel right behind me.
The first place I thought to check was the lake. But as we fought our way through the dense trees we found no one.
Second place was her room, I peered through the window but she wasn't there.
"Where else could she be?" Mirabel stammered.
I opened my mouth to respond, but before I could speak I heard a scream coming from the mountains.
"Fuck!" I cursed before running off on the direction we heard it from.
