Matt had a proud, almost arrogant smile on his face. "Well?" he said. "Do you have anything else to say for yourself?"

Joshua just stared at the ground, not believing his own mind. "I... I like Liv."

"Tell me something I don't know," Matt mumbled.

"I don't believe it. I like... Olivia."

"Yeah, I heard you the first time."

"I don't..." The realization began to hit him. "No... no, no, no, this is really bad." He stood up and started pacing.

"What?" Matt asked, standing too. "What are you talking about?"

"I- I can't like her. Not in that way." Joshua was starting to freak out.

"Again what? Why not? What's the big fuss?"

"Matt, we're just friends. I- I'm not supposed to see her in that way. Oh my god, this is gonna ruin everything."

"You're being overdramatic. You liking her is not gonna ruin anything."

"B- But I don't think she wants a relationship. Even if she did, it wouldn't be with me."

"What!? Come on, you guys have had it for each other for weeks now. It's not like she's repulsed by you."

"But I don't know if I'm ready for something like that. God, this is a disaster."

"Well, what are you going to do about it?"

Joshua thought for a moment. "Ok... Ok, I have an idea. I'll just... ignore everything."

"Wait, that's not-"

"No no, it's a great idea. I'll just... pretend the feelings don't exist for the sake of our friendship."

"I don't think that's healthy. Wouldn't it be better to know instead of guessing or hoping and overthinking the situation?"

"We've never shown interest in each other, so I don't see the point."

"Well, to be fair, these feelings haven't been at the front of your mind... even if it was obvious from the start."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

Matt's jaw dropped. "You can not be serious. Friends don't fall asleep with each other randomly. Friends don't look at each other with heart-shaped pupils. Friends don't write a love song together and make the feelings come to life while performing it."

"Ok, first off," he began, "random makes it sound like a weird drunken hookup; we were hanging out and accidentally fell asleep. Secondly, heart-shaped pupils? Seriously? We look at each other like anyone else would; that's it. And third, it's a song between Ricky and Nini. It's supposed to be kind of lovey-dovey."

"Ugh!" Matt groaned, rubbing a hand over his face. "You're hopeless, absolutely hopeless. H- How? Just how do you not see it?!"

Joshua's phone buzzed, which spooked him more than it should've. It was a text from Olivia: I just finished the call with my parents if you're still up for doing something tonight. He smiled as he typed a response:
