The following week, the wrap party was happening. Everyone pitched in and contributed to food, drinks, etc. They held it in the auditorium because where else would a party be held after finishing a show centered around High School Musical? (Tim was just strict about spilling anything and leaving trash and food behind.) It was just going to be the nine of them at the start of it though because they wanted it to be small and intimate for a moment.
The most entertaining part of the whole thing was when Sofia brought her laptop and mentioned karaoke. The crew wasn't here yet, but Larry found microphones in the back and magically figured out how to work them. Being the maniacs they were, a few decided to do the worst possible job, purposefully singing off-key and abnormally loud like a traditional karaoke club. Everyone was laughing their asses off as the performances made everybody seem incredibly drunk; they were having a blast though, so it was worth it.
As they kept taking turns, Matt came over and sat next to Joshua. "Hey, you and Liv should sing Just for a Moment," he suggested.
Joshua swallowed. "Um, why?"
"Because it's your song."
"Dude, there's something about this I don't-"
"Great, perfect, get up there." He rapidly shoved his friend onto the stage.
"Wait, I need-" He spun around and away from Matt, grabbing his guitar out of the case. Once it was in his hands, Matt was urgently ushering him to the stage. "Hold your horses," he said, making sure it was in tune.
While he was doing that, Olivia was holding a microphone and was forced onto the stage too, Sofia pushing on her back. "Wait, Sof, you didn't tell me what song."
After confirming the guitar was in tune, Matt rapidly yanked his arm. "Ok, ok, chill out some," he said, stepping onto the stage.
Olivia saw him approach her and was highly perplexed. "What's happening?" she whispered.
"I don't entirely know," he admitted.
"What song is it though?"
"Just for a Moment?" he asked.
She smiled and nodded. "Sure... I guess." She would have appreciated a little more of a heads up before this, but maybe it'll be fine since Joshua was clearly forced into this too.
No music played in the background since he had his guitar. The cast all gathered together in a bunch to watch the couple perform. (They were basically perceived as an unofficial couple whether the parties involved were aware or not.)
As he was playing the opening chords, Joshua realized there wasn't a microphone stand for him; they hadn't even given him a mic in the first place. Upon realizing this, the intro lasted longer than it was meant to, and no one seemed to be moving to help him.
Olivia looked over and went to stand next to him, holding the mic for him. These people planned this. Joshua smiled and sang the opening lines, grinning wide the whole time. She took it back and sang her parts, looking him in the eyes the whole time.
They sang the song without looking at the others once, too engrossed in each other's gaze. The pair felt like they truly were in a movie; it was the classic scene where the two main love interests would share a heartfelt moment right before the official ending.
As Olivia was singing the bridge, the auditorium gradually faded into the background; they couldn't hear their castmates' snickers or whispers anymore. It felt like the real world had cut into a dream sequence from TV shows and movies where one character fantasized about being with another.
When singing the first line of the final chorus, Joshua slipped his guitar off, so he could stand closer to Olivia. She was majorly close to forgetting how their song went because she felt like he could see right through her.
