That Professor Is My Husband

While my brother was driving, I tried to ask him about the scene earlier.

"Kuya?" I called out.

"Hmmm?" he responded.

"What happened earlier? She looked really mad at you. What was that all about?" I asked.

"Hmm... that? I was just texting when suddenly that dog came and bit the tip of my slacks." He spoke in a bored tone, as if it was nothing. "I grabbed the dog and was about to call the security office to report it, but then that girl showed up, claiming it was her lost dog," he explained.

"Did you check the dog tag?" I asked.

"Yeah, its name is Tasha, just like what that woman said," he replied, which made me think.

"Are you convinced she's the owner?" I asked, still curious.

"Yeah, she showed me a necklace with the dog's name on it," he said, keeping his eyes fixed on the road.

"Then why didn't you give it back, knowing you were convinced?" I pressed.

"I'm just teasing her that I needed strong proof to prove she was the owner of the dog, and then she got pissed off. She looked like a scary puppy," he chuckled, shaking his head.

I blinked in surprise. Is this real? My brother just chuckled? This is the first time I’ve seen him smile, even just a little, after such a long time. He’s usually so cold and serious.

"I can't believe it, Kuya! You actually smiled!" I exclaimed.

"Did I?" he asked, his expression suddenly serious again.

I was about to respond when my phone rang.

«Mommy's Calling»

I quickly answered the call.

"Hello, Mom!"

[“Hiro? Where are you and your brother? Your Lolo is waiting at the airport he just called.”]

"Oh shit! Yeah, we're on our way, Mom. Bye."

[“Okay, take care. Just text me when you’ve picked him up. Bye.”]

"Yes, Mom. Bye." I hung up and turned to my brother. "Kuya! Hurry up! Lolo's waiting at the airport. Mom just called."

He didn’t respond and just focused on driving.

I still couldn't believe he smiled! And it was all because of that girl!

Pagkatapos ng nangyari, umuwi na ako. Grabe, kinabahan ako kanina akala ko mawawala na si Tasha sa akin. Feeling ko tuloy napaka-OA ko kanina. Binigay ko muna kay isang kasambahay si Tasha.

E alangan namang maging masaya pa ako na nawala ang aso ko, diba?

Nagpahinga muna ako ng konti, pagkatapos ay nagligo na. Papunta ako sa dining nang makasalubong ko ang caregiver ni Lolo na may hawak na tray mukhang pakakainin na si Lolo.

"Ahh... Nurse Joy, ako na muna ang magpapakain kay Lolo. Pwede ka na muna magpahinga. Tatawagin na lang kita mamaya," sabi ko sabay kuha ng tray.

Alanganin niya pa akong tiningnan. “S-sige po, Ma'am.”

Tumango lang ako at ngumiti, sinamahan niya ako sa labas ng kwarto ni Lolo. Sinenyasan ko siyang sa labas na lang at ako ang pumasok. Agad akong pumasok at dumeretso sa tabi ni Lolo na mukhang kakagising lang.
