"Penelope just hear me out," I pleaded as she stood with her back to me.

"Brady, Marisol isn't just a friend okay. Anyone at that school can tell you that."

"Oh yeah? What about Cory? He looks like he does drugs and is high all the time!"

"Bull shit! You're just jealous," she glared with her wings unfulring.

"Am not, clearly I'm not good enough for you Nel. Is that it?"

"Brady what the hell are you talking about? You walked off with her! You were like hey babe and left! Tell me how I'm overreacting. I was told you were with her so I'm still trying to see where I went wrong and how I'm not good enough."

"We can't date humans Nel."

"I'm aware of that. Are you?"

"This is ridiculous. She is just a friend Penelope."

"Doesn't look like it," she muttered.

"Why are you going to this party anyways? You'll get discovered, or worse they'll use you for their own selfish needs and entertainment. Is that what you want Penelope?"

"Go away Brady."

"No, not until you understand."

"I understand dammit!" She opened up the window and flew out.

"Penelope!" I yelled and flew after her.

She saw me following and picked up speed.

'Shit,' I thought and tried to speed up while screaming her name into the wind.

The hair on the back of my neck started to stand up which meant only one thing.

"Des!"

The thing came from out of nowhere and dragged me down. I threw my wings out to slow my fall as I kicked it, hoping it would get off.

"Guardiansss," it hissed.

I punched it's face and yelled to Nel as it fell into the water.

There was no reply and I looked around to see where she was.

"Penelope!"

"Brady!" she screamed as I saw her being dragged into the water.

"Shit, hang on Nel!"

She went under along with the two Desmonda. Can they swim? I questioned and dove into the water to find her.

My wings helped propell me awkwardly through the water as I searched for her. She was about two yards away with only one Desmonda still on her.

I shot over to her and grabbed it, snapping his neck violently. Nel shied away frightened at what I had just done but then clung to me when she realized she was still underwater.

I brought us up to the surface. "Nel you okay?"

"Yea... I'm sorry Brady," she shook and tried to get out of the water.

"Are you hurt?"

"I don't think so."

"Okay, let's fly back to the house."

We had to push violently to shake the water off our heavy wings and flew slowly back to the house.

"Brady, I can't push my wings," Penelope huffed as she flew in place.

I turned back and grabbed her from under her arms and carried her.

We landed roughly into her room and laid on her floor huffing,

I turned and stroked her cheek. "I'm sorry."

"I am too," she grimaced and rubbed her shoulders.

"Do you see anything."

I sat up and caught my breath when I saw her shoulder blades.

"What?"

"Nel, can you move your wings?"

"Yea why?"

"They cut pretty deep. Let me get Jeremiah."

"We'll have to move."

"I promise we won't but you need antibiotics or something."

I jumped down the staircase and walked into Jeremiah's room.

He closed his laptop when he saw my face, "Brady what's wrong?"

"Nel was attacked."

"What happened?" he started gathering his medicine kit together and followed me upstairs.

"We were arguing and she flew out so naturally I went after her. Then a group of Desmonda showed from out of nowhere and attacked us."

He stopped on the stairs, "they already found you?"

"It could have been just a group."

"Brady,"

"Jeremiah we can't keep running around like this. You said we would have to fight. That's what we're designed to do."

"I realize this, but I'm not ready to lose one of you because you weren't quick or strong enough."

"Then you shouldn't have changed us,"

"Brady." Penelope called from the room.

"Coming Nel."

Jeremiah entered and dropped his bag. "Oh Penelope."

"Is it bad?" she shuddered and trie to move her wings helplessly.

"Did they bite you?"

"No."

"Are you positive? Because their bites are more lethal than their scratches. The venom travels quicker."

Penelope started silently weeping and whispered, "yes."

"Yes what?"

"One bit me."
