Jeremiah showed up with a first aid kit and a huge van. Now where he got that I have no idea. All of the kids started to shy away from him except Piper.
"It's okay," she said and went over to him.
"What happened?" he asked Brady and I.
"We weren't aware there were kids when we nuked the place... but we saved all of them. Some just have really bad burns." Brady looked down at Piper and held her hand.
"I see. Are any of them changed?"
"I don't think so," I replied, looking at the bunch of kids.
Jeremiah sighed and began doctoring some of the kids injuries, "where are the others?"
"Right here," Penelope said with the girls in tow and Cedric following close behind.
"Help me get these kids taken care of then we'll return them before going home."
"And then what'll happen?"
"If Holster isn't dead we find him and kill him. I'm not having your names tarnished for this... accident," he hesitated and went on with what he was doing.
I sighed and looked at my siblings and friends. It felt like this would never end...
Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Cedric grab Marie's hand. It was a small gesture but to me I immediately noticed that there was some deeper meaning behind it. Were they dating? I was all for Marie dating and stuff specially since the guy was like us, but I guess that meant I was now by myself.
"James," Jeremiah called, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I walked over and helped pick up some kids before getting them settled into the vehicle.
"Where do you live?" I asked a young boy was sitting with his little brother.
"Not too far from here. If you go past those tall buildings and stay straight for..." he paused.
"Lake!" his brother piped up and his older brother smiled, "yea we live by a lake. It's past those buildings. You'll see it."
I nodded and figured most of the kids lived at least somewhere relatively close to the others.
"You guys stay with the rest while I drop these ones off first, since they're in more critical condition. Or if you want, you can fly them somewhere close by and let them walk home. Your choice," Jeremiah said as I got in the car with him and Tabitha decided to join.
The others stayed with the ten kids that were waiting for Jeremiah to return as we headed on our way to the houses of the children.
"You okay?" Tabitha whispered to me as I turned to look into her eyes.
"Yea, just... do you ever feel like you were created for a bigger purpose and haven't found it yet?"
She pursed her lips and thought hard, "other than this life... yeah. But I figure I'll know what that purpose is when it comes upon me, no use in worrying about something when I know I'm taking the right steps towards it."
"Huh, I never thought about it like that," I smiled as she sat back down in her seat and started playing with one of the girl's hair. Maybe she was right.
