"Penelope!" I screamed as my sister nose dived into the flames with Brady and Cedric chasing after her. What was she thinking! The screams I heard sounded like Desmonda to me...
Tabitha had her mouth agape and just fluttered her wings so she could continue flying in place. "Um... we need to stay here,"
James looked like he was debating on whether or not to follow the others as I grabbed his arm, there's no way I was losing all three of them.
He looked at my face and patted my shoulder gently, "it'll be okay Marie."
We flew around the building to see if we could see anyone on the inside. All I kept seeing was orange and red flames bursting from a new window and black smoke trying to choke our lungs and blind us.
"James there were Desmonda in there right? We didn't just bomb this place for the fun of it right?"
"I don't see why they would've left... all of this seems suspicious though. What do you think Tabitha?"
She sighed, "I don't know what's going on. But if they had seen someone they should be out by now..."
Tabitha was right it had already been a few minutes. With our speed and force we would've gotten whoever it was out of those flames...
"Should we put the fire out?" I called to them thinking that was the only thing we could do at this point.
"There's too much of it to fight, either we go in to help or we wait."
"Wait I see something!" James called as one of them shot out of the flames with a little girl in their arms.
Brady came huffing over to us, and handed me Piper.
"Piper!" I cried and rubbed her scorched cheek tenderly, "Brady who's down there?"
He held his head, "there's Desmonda in there that's for sure. But there's... Marie there's kids in there. Innocent children they captured."
My eyes watered, "what! Tabitha and Cedric hadn't seen anyone else."
"They must've been in a different area. We're getting as many out as we can... I need your help." He turned around and darted back into the flames as Nel and Cedric emerged with two kids each.
James and Tabitha helped me put Piper down under a tree before forcing ourselves into the fire.
The first thing I saw through the dark film was children coughing and crying. They couldn't have been any older than me... Knowing we had nearly killed a bunch of innocent kids made me feel sick...
"Help," a little boy cried crawling towards me.
I grabbed his arm and another little girl who was hiding under a table while pushing with all my might to support their weight with my wings. I huffed and puffed as I made it to the exit and told them to run as I went back in to grab more kids.
"Marie!" James called as I dove down to grab another kid from the awaiting flames and threw him to James and went back down to find more. My wings were being singed and I knew we wouldn't be able to get the rest out at this rate.
I flew back out to where the kids were huddling and began sobbing as I took in their wounds and burns that some would never be able to cover up. I had done this along with my siblings... We were truly monsters and deserved to be exterminated.
Cedric came up to me and hugged me tightly, "don't cry little one we didn't know... he kissed my hair gently and wiped my tears away tenderly."
"We're monsters," I choked and looked into his eyes somberly.
"No, we're not Marie. Holster is for taking them as prisoners. We're saving them from this." He hugged me tightly and I felt a weird sensation run through my stomach as he held me close to him. Oh my gosh I think I was developing a crush...
The others approached us and I pulled away with my face a bright pink that would have been noticeable if there wasn't soot and ash covering my cheeks as well.
"They're all out," Tabitha spoke and went to go look at their wounds along with James.
"Did we see Holster?" I asked Brady.
He shook his head, "no either he is truly dead or was out while this happened."
I groaned and felt Cedric rub my back soothingly. I resisted the urge to let him hold me again as I tried to get Nel's attention so I could talk to her in private. If this was what I thought it was I needed her help now more than ever.
