The next morning at breakfast I saw Penelope and Brady holding hands and hiding a smile. I guess they were back together which was good for them.
"What's first on the list for today Jeremiah?"
He finished pouring a glass of OJ before speaking, "Today we start your missions."
"Meaning.." James began.
"To destroy the Desmonda once and for all."
"Jeremiah how? They'll just keep creating more."
"Which is why I'm sending you guys to the badlands. It's their headquarters where a man by the name of Juan Holster lives. He's mentally unstable and has been apart of many diabolical episodes in the past. It's your job to stop him."
"So we go to the bad lands, kick butt, destroy Desmonda, and we're good?" I asked hopeful.
"If only it were that simple. There's tight security within a ten mile radius of the place. You'll need this chip to help you hack into the place James." Jeremiah handed my brother a tiny red microchip.
"What are you not telling us?" Penelope pressed.
He sighed and drained the rest of his juice in order to stall. "You guys were genetically enhanced to stop them. Besides flying, and hacking into things you should be developing more talents. If you fail too, the mission will be aborted and you guys will be terminated."
"Terminated!" I squeaked and saw the color drain from the rest of everyone else's faces.
"You're kidding right? We're just kids!" Brady shouted and pounded his fist against the table.
"I wish I could tell you differently guys, but it's not my decision."
"Then who can we talk to?" James snarled. His voice surprised me but at this point I wouldn't have been surprised if one of us started throwing things.
"I'll look into it I promise but for now you guys need to focus on the task ahead."
Jeremiah got up leaving the four of us to fully take in what had just been said. We were on a mission to "find ourselves" or we die. If we couldn't complete the mission who would?
Penelope gave me a weak smile as if she could read my thoughts. "Well gang, here's our chance. Get packed up, we'll head out at noon."
